Jackie Chan Uses Stunt Doubles?

Friday, April 6th, 2007 at 8:47 am by Jamie

Stuntman Bruce Law claims that he has doubled for Jackie Chan in a number of Jackie’s Chinese language films. A spokesman for Jackie said that he only resorts to using doubles in Hollywood because of Hollywood’s safety restrictions.

The Hollywood bit sounds accurate. Chan has repeatedly stated that he doesn’t like working within the restrictions of Hollywood because he doesn’t get to do all the wild and crazy shit that he used to. But they clearly pay better because he still works in Hollywood. I wouldn’t be surprised if Bruce Law was claiming he doubled Chan in Hollywood. But the claim that Chan used doubles in his other work rings false. Besides the countless blooper footage of Chan breaking himself at every turn, he has a great reputation for insisting on doing all his own crazy ass stunts. This sounds like some bullshit.

Agreed, in his old chinese movies the whole attraction was that jackie was doing all this crazy stuff himself like jumping across those balconies when he broke his foot. He then finished the rest of the movie with his foot in a cast with a special piece of cloth made to look like a shoe. I don’t think a guy that was that hard core would let anyone do anything for him. I had heard that hollywood because of insurance was forcing him, but old movies? No way!

Jackie’s claim of always doing his own stunts doesn’t hold up to careful scrutiny, but the guy has broken so many bones doing what he does it’s impossible to deny he’s done the majority of his own stuntwork, especially with all the footage of him performing really dangerous feats.
