Imus Fired

Well shit, Imus got canned.

Instead of fading away into obscurity, which would have been a more fitting punishment, now Imus is a fucking super star. Everyone knows his name. And he’s going to make more than bank with his next gig. You can be shit sure he’s going to get a sweet deal on satellite. Or fucking Fox News will pick his crusty old ass up.

I have to take back what I said about firing him. I don’t like his show at all and I don’t think it should be on the air, but that has nothing to do with what he said. I don’t think he’s funny. But firing him over “nappy headed ho’s” sets a dangerous precedent. Now, not only can’t you say those deadly swear words on the air, but you can’t insult anyone. What the fuck kind of message is that? How can you do comedy without insulting someone?

I’m as liberal as the next hippie and I really, really hate to defend a douche bag like Don the fuck Imus. But dammit, grow the fuck up. So what he called you nappy headed. Ignore his old ass and move the fuck on. Don’t give him that power over you. And certainly don’t turn him into a martyr for free speech. We have the right to turn him off. We have the right to not listen to him. We have to right to make his ratings go down the shitter. So just turn him off and move on. If we all ignored him, he’d be off the air anyway.

We’re going backwards here. This rave out against Imus is so damaging to our ethnic culture. It takes us further away from an honest dialog about race and ethnicity in this country that has need to take place ever since the Civil Rights movement. We’re moving backwards, people.

Why is it okay for black people to use the N word when no one else can? Why is it okay to insult white people? Why don’t we hold people like Sharpton and Jesse Jackson accountable for hateful speech against Jews and other white people? Is it okay not to like people? There are questions that we as a society must deal with. There’s a dialog that is not taking place which desperately needs to start. We need to get through this race mess so that we can all agree on being American.

The Don and Mike show and the Donnie Simpson morning show here in D.C. want to get together to host a radio round table to openly discuss race. I hope that CBS has the balls to allow this conversation to happen. We need this discussion because the victim of this continual fight is free speech. We need to turn this corner so we can get on with the business of being Americans. We’ve spent the last six years being divided. It’s time we come together on something dammit.
