Fuck the FCC

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007 at 10:12 am by Jami

If children need to be protected from indecency, their parents should do the protecting, not the FCC. I have never understood why parents turn to the FCC to save their kids from the evils of swear words and boobs. There’s an off switch. Fucking use it!

Ever since Janet exposed her nipple clamps at the Super Bowl, the FCC witch hunt has gone full tilt. They’ve scared the shock jocks off the radio waves. They’ve turned our television into cookie cutter reality bullshit. They’ve even set their sights on cable!

So it is with great pleasure that I report that a New York appeals court tossed out an FCC ruling that levied fines against networks for accidental swear words uttered at award shows or other live broadcasts. HA!

We find the FCC’s new policy sanctioning ‘fleeting expletives’ is arbitrary and capricious under the Administrative Procedures Act for failing to articulate a reasoned basis for its change in policy.

It’s gratifying to know that not every branch of government is out to control speech. It’s kind of sad that a court had to tell the FCC to calm the fuck down, but if that’s what it takes, send them bitches to court every day and twice on Sunday.

I don’t think courts are open on Sundays.

You can thank the late and largely unlamented Jack Valenti for a lot of that. He was in charge of the MPAA when they changed film ratings and decided that violence was OK, sex was not. Couple that with bible belt fundie preachers who cringe at the thought of people having fun, a direct holdover of Puritanism, and you get the mess that we now have.
