Stargate Universe

The executive producer of the Stargate shows, Robert C. Cooper, is working on a third series tentatively titled Stargate Universe.

It’s being developed. Not a lot to say at the moment, other than it’s … not the characters from SG-1 or Atlantis. It’s a completely third entity. The third series is born of the mythology that’s been established.

One thing that we think contributes to the success of [all of] the series and the concept behind the series is that it takes place in the here and now. … It’s about us and our age of people dealing with fantastic things, like Stargates and wormholes and aliens. And then there’s an identifiable quality to the people in the show. It’s not like an antiseptic version of humanity sometime 500 years in the future. [SG-1's] Jack O’Neill [Richard Dean Anderson] was a guy who everybody could relate to, and his reactions to the more fantastic elements of the series were the reactions the average Joe on the street might have.

With SG-1 ending and Battlestar Gallactica heading into its final season, Stargate Atlantis will be one of the few sci-fi series on a channel that’s supposed to be dedicated to, well, sci-fi (the fuck is ECW doing on there, anyway). It’s clear there needs to be another show to fill the gap. Should it be another Stargate show? While I’ll agree that the overall concept is quite compelling, they may be going back to the well one too many times. The hinted mythology angle piques my interest so I’ll probably give the first few episodes a try if it gets picked up. But I’m ready for something new.

If you want good sci-fi, get Firefly back on TV.

They have, or had, Eureka which I thought was pretty good. I don’t know if they plan to continue that show though.

We’ll see. I already think Atlantis is better than SG-1. If they can repeat that improvement, I’ll be quite happy.

Bring back Richard Dean Anderson. Hell, bring back MacGuyver. And I don’t want to hear that stupid news about Owen Wilson considering a role as MacGuyver in a theatrical release of the famed T.V show.

Clearly you have already forgotten that Atlantis WAS the third series. Stargate infinite came before it.
