Ya Kratos is way cooler, he would destroy Dante in no time.

Wow…a bit geeky but I feel honored that you took my suggestion, thanks a lot. The idea actually came up on a forum and became a huge argument over who was better, I figured I’d pop in the suggestion here. Great art as always. But for shame on my name pronunciation, I thought a fellow Nihon-jin would say it flawlessly. Thanks again for doing the battle, though, so very honored.

If Dante gets his devil-trigger, Kratos gets his magic. And Hade’s Army, or Poseidon’s rage would distract the hell out of Dante.

Kratos, at first, is more of a human. He’s one strong mofo, but he’s mortal. We’ve seen him die twice only to crawl out of hell by his sheer physical power. Course this IS saying something about what he can withstand, but it also means that he might not survive a headshot (but he’ll just crawl out of hell again anyway).

Dante will take anything and probably live. We don’t really know if can be killed actually, I mean he runs out of health during play, but seriously? When he got his sword, it stabbed him through the heart and he pushed the rest of it through his body. What does that say?

For the sake of argument, let’s say that cutting off the head will kill Dante… Kratos can probably dodge bullets, block them, or use the golden fleece which can absorb ANY attack and return its power. I would have to say that Kratos’s sword abilities are a bit superior to Dante’s, which will be Dante’s major drawback.

Kratos also has the Rage of the Gods/Titans (RoD looks so much better though) which is kinda like Dante’s devil trigger actually. Except Kratos’s Rage is probably stronger because he gets unlimited magic and Summon one bitch of a flaming tornado.

All in all, I had to really consider this one because I prefer Kratos to Dante, but even then it seems as though even through Kratos is human (or demi-god) he can still woop Dante’s demon ass.

And cause this has to be said… WHY HAVEN’T YOU PLAYED GOD OF WAR YET?!

@Arasuke - Yeah, I’m totally embarrassed I botched your name. In my slight defense, I’m really a gai-jin, I’m only half Japanese (other half Chinese), and I don’t speak Japanese. I’ve been meaning to learn, but I just haven’t made time.

@Kindless - I know, I fucking suck. I just got a PS2 three years ago for Guitar Hero. The last game I played was Jewel Quest II on my phone :( I really miss gaming, but everything else has sort of taken priority. Maybe if I rent God of War I and II it’ll actually force me to make some time to actually play a game for once.

Nothing to be embarrassed by, I’m only a quarter Japanese myself, I was just giving you a hard time.

I haven’t played either game, but I’ve seen the videos and watched my friends play. The newest game I’ve ever played was Kingdom Hearts 2 a year after it came out, my game savy suffers.

    Hmm…

Awesome as Kratos is, I don’t think Dante’s getting as much credit as he deserves. Kratos may be the son of Zeus, but Dante is the son of Sparda, who, while possibly not quite Olympian, was still pretty high in the immortal pecking order.

Also, while Kratos’s insane stamina and endurance definitely outclass Dante’s, the latter’s no slouch in that regard either, having been repeatedly impaled clean-through all over the place, jumped off the top of a 700-something story tower, and been eaten by Leviathan with no ill effects.

Ebony and Ivory would be pretty ineffective, true, but Dante has access to just as many weapons as Kratos, both ranged and melee, many of them packing a far bigger punch than his handguns. (The Beowulf gauntlets and Kalina Ann / rocket-launcher come to mind.)

Lastly, as far as hand-to-hand goes, there’s something to be said for looking past the exterior. Dante is the stereotypical pretty-boy, while Kratos has testosterone squirting out of his ears, but they’re not quite as unbalanced a match as it would first seem. Royal Guard lets Dante block and deflect pretty much everything that comes his way, given the right timing, and his technique (if not his brute strength) is easily equal to Kratos’s.

…It’s still a toss-up, but people seem to be passing off Dante pretty blithely, so that’s my defense. :\

dante’s swordplay is crazy although he has more of a style over substance vide the guy can pull off some crazy moves, he also has other weapons sucks as a shotgun with infinite bullets, 2 fiery gauntlets, and a necroplasmic beam gun (all these appeared in DMC 1) in DMC 3 dante has a move where he SPINS HIS SWORD AROUND HIS BODY only to smash it down on the opponent. and everyone knows that even berserkers have their weaknesses, dante has the smartas to figure out kratos’s flaws and exploit them, he just never thinks that far ahead in battle cuz his sheer skill and power is usually enough for an easy win. any one who follows martial arts should know that raging bulls are often times much easier to take down than a weaker but more fucosed and centered opponent. so I give this one to dante

Kratos is cool, yes. I have to agree that he does have “testosterone squirting out of his ears,” there’s something to be said about his mortality. He’s crazy strong, yes. He’s insanely fast, true. He’s insane, oh most definitely. Immortal? No. He’s died twice so far, if you remember. The first time he was just too stubborn to stay in Hades. The second, he got bailed out by Gaia. As far as the games go, Kratos gets a lot of help before he’s able to be the badass demigod of death, destruction, and well… death, he is by the end of the game. Dante gets his powers and upgrades by beating the shit out of people. So yeah, he’s playful, jokes around a lot, and is generally easy to ignore or pass off, but I just can’t see Dante being the pushover that the majority of people seem to believe. There’s something to be said about being impaled with your own sword (two or three times, so far, I can’t remember…), jumping off skyscrapers, being eaten, traveling in and out of hell on a whim, and battling the devil himself all while pissing everyone off into a mistake.

Popularity contest aside, I don’t think Dante is as much of a pushover as believed. It’s like seeing who would win in a fight between Alucard from Hellsing, and D from well…. Vampire Hunter D. It’d be a fun fucking fight to watch, but I just don’t think one would win outright over the other. I can tell you one thing though…. everyone would be sore the morning after.

Oh! One more note about Dante’s resilience: He got shot in the forehead, and his only response was mock-indignation.

i agree that dantes is a son of a devil, but on the other hand, Kratos is Son of Zeus(god), kratos has a lot of allies like gods of titans, what does dante have, a bazooka and a machine gun?. Lets go specific about kratos. Dudues, kratos doesnt just have blades of athena. He has like 10 magics but im only gonna include one. He has a bow ok? Which can shoot on a distance agaisnt dante’s frickin gun.

Kratos will win eventually.it’s raw fockin’ power against some ninjitsu stuff, come on!
Even if Dante manages to beat, kill, dissect Kratos this just won’t stop him.He ‘ll be coming back for more. This guy doesn’t stop at absolutely nothing. He died and slashed his way back from the dead.Just get him motivated that’s all u need to do.And he will be motivated by some pistols and an emo(?!?) looking demon. There’s nobody fiction or real life character as mad,bad ass, determined, son of b*tch like Kratos. He will slash Dante’s flesh and even if he doesn’t die he will hunt him down whatever is left of him.At the end you just can’t stop this guy as hard as you hit him from coming over and over again each time more angry, determined and ruthless.
    THE END

  15. Avatarnsfox

I don’t know… All this talk of Kratos coming back from the dead and magic and allies and what not… all that means is that Kratos needs help. Constantly. He can’t do it the entire way without some help from SOMEONE along the way. Dante gets his weapons from beating down his opponents and just learning crap on his own. Let me put it this way:

Devil May Cry 1 ( and 3): Dante gets stabbed. Multiple times in the first game alone even. What’s the worst that happens? He cracks a funny, then gets back up.

God of War 2: Kratos gets stabbed. Once. ONLY ONCE. What happens? Not only does he die, but he gives up. Gaia has to come in a save his butt.

Kratos may sweat pure manliness, but it just doesn’t compare to someone who doesn’t take the damage at all. If you don’t believe me. Try playing either God of War without using any weapons or magic more than you have to. Let me know how that works out.

“God of War 2: Kratos gets stabbed. Once. ONLY ONCE. What happens? Not only does he die, but he gives up. Gaia has to come in a save his butt.”

Big flaws here. 1. Yes, Kratos died by being stabbed once. By a divine weapon likely infinitely more powerful than whatever Dante’s been stabbed by (especial since anything that’s killed Kratos was wielded by a God. I dut Dante would last any longer against Zeus than Kratos did in a weakened state). 2. Not a thing in the game suggested that he gave up at that time. Quite the opposite in fact: “You will pay for this, Zeus. Be certain of that.” Also, Gaia healed his wound, IIRC–she didn’t guide him out of the underworld. And 3. Waht you say about Dante getting his weapons from beating down his opponents is taking a one-sided bias. Kratos does more than enough to compensate for being given his abilities, he’s given the powers because not only does he progress through trials to earn the powers, he’s got more than the aptitude to show for it when wielding the powers he gets (also, for at least half the powers Kratos has, he got them from doing something one his own i.e. the Medusa/Euryale heads.).

Kratos has Godly/Demi-godly strength/endurance/ and is the son of Zeus.
Dante has Devlish/demonic speed/reflexes/fighting skills and is the son of Sparda.
Zeus is currently acting as god for the Olympians after beating up and locking up the titans, the previous gods.
Sparda is beat up all the rulers of hell then locked them up and gave the keys to his sons.
    Zeus = Sparda
Just to stop those HIS THE SON OF GOD OMG replies.

Now in the fight Kratos will have his whole arsenal of weapons and all his magics, thats fine.
Dante can use all his weapons from dmc1-dmc3 and all his styles.

Kratos can die but then crawls back from hell. Got killed twice and came back twice.
Dante can´t die but he often times visits hell just for fun. Got himself made into swiss cheese by 5 demons in the beginning on DMC3 and still walks around trying to eat his pizza.

i believe that Dante will win on the account of more diversity, he is smart and he reacts fast. the Sheer number of weapons Dante can use is astounding and nobody actually knows how strong he is. He even used Vergils Yamamoto(katana) perfectly, constantly gets new weapons and uses them perfectly. Secondly he can range from hand to hand(beowulf made that clear) to sword(medium distance), to long-range gun based weapons(a huge arsenal of guns). His speed is not touchable by Kratos, moves hyper fast(Quicksilver + Trickster).

I think Dantes diversity, speed and endurance will give him the edge in this battle.

If were talking about what game is better, then GoW wins hands down….

Everything stated here goes at least equally for Kratos. For most of life before realizing his capacity at mainting Godly abilities, he was a Spartan captain (sure, this form won’t last against Dante, but his past as such a reknowned and feared captain for tactics that are as strategically effetive as they are brutal is enough to show that he isn’t just a mindless brute with no strategy), he already faced battle as a living. After his powers as a Demi-God were awakened, everything was pushed to 11.

For most weapons and powers that Dante has, Kratos has an equvalent in terms of concept (and for some of them, a superior in terms of power). And what he doesn’t have compared to Dante (so far, it’s limited to more or less insta-healing and speedy acrobatics), he makes up for with his sheer physical strength (and there’s proof everywhere in the games that Kratos is at least twice as strong physically). The weapons and spells Kratos gains, he too uses with second-nature mastery (maybe not as “stylishly” as Dante, but stylishness is what Dante defines in the action genre. Kratos defines brutality), and I would really doubt even with Dante’s speed, he’d be able to counter them. Spells like Army of Hades and Cronos’ Rage are things that Dante, and alot of others, just aren’t tough enough to witstand or overpower should they fall victim to it.

Plus, as of God of War 2, Kratos is basically the wielder of all time and destiny, so in that sense, he could just go anywhere or take Dante anywhere in time, and either just leave him there, or something that could even erase him from existance if Kratos so chose.

I voted for Dante. OK, so maybe Dante’s not a raging bul full of raw power, ready to mash, slash, bash, and crash everything and everyone in his path like Kratos, but Dante’s a lot smarter than Kratos, so I think that he can use Kratos’ anger against him. And besides, Dante is a lot faster…

Anyway, if Dante can’t defeat Kratos’ then I think Vergil, Danthe’s older brother, will. I mean apart from the smarter and using Krato’s anger against himself part, Vergil is stronger than Dante in some occasions, and I think Vergil can kill Kratos with both his hands and feet tied behind his back and wearing a blindfold (although it would be very hard).

You speak as if Kratos is a mindless beast. He’s beastly alright (which attests to his badassedness), but hes not mindless at all. There are plenty of places where he uses more than just brute force. The narrator of God of War (Gaia) states herself that Kratos’ TACTICS were “brutal, but effective”. And it’s really not as easy as you would think to exploit Kratos’ pride in battle, because Kratos hapens to be ten times as serious(when he’s not being indifferent) as Dante can ever be: While Dante stands still eating pizza and letting five plus scythes stab him (yes, I know he survived those stabs, and the entire scene was fun to watch), Kratos is staring down a twenty plus foot Minotaur and impaling the Hydra’s largest head on a mast.

  23. AvatarLino Walker
    23

Yes, I know Kratos isn’t stupid, but I think Dante’s smarter, I mean Kratos is arrogant to a certain extend while Dante is just a dandy (as most people refer to them).
I’m not saying that Dante is the strongest guy in the history of forever, or that Kratos is a weak, stupid piece of foam - nothing likely! Kratos is one of the toughest, strongest and sturdiest m*****f*****s you can find! I’m just saying that Dante has a chance of defeating Kratos - that’s all!

P.S: What about the “Kratos vs. Vergil” match - who do you think’ll win?

Just a suggestion, could you do Cloud from Final Fantasy 7 vs Link from the Zelda series, I thought it would be cool to have 2 RPG characters that are extremely popular to fight it out. I personally would give the fight to cloud, but whatever

  25. AvatarLunar6
    25

“P.S: What about the “Kratos vs. Vergil” match - who do you think’ll win?”

In general, I think it would be a much closer fight, since Vergil isn’t a fraction as cocky as Dante (people can call him “dandy” if they want, but cocky is what he ultimately is. And yes, I know Kratos arrogant, but it’s hardly ever to a fault, in fact, it’s been partially what’s fueled him to perform the otherwise impossible feats he’s performed). Of course, I still think a Kratos s. Dante duel would be about as close. I’m not gonna mention the little “conditions” you used, because I think you were being sarcastic.

And you’re speeling’s fine for the most part.

And just for the record, Mr. “I like cheese”, Zelda isn’t an RPG series, it’s an Adventure series.

  26. AvatarLino Walker
    26

These feats are one of the reasons for me to think that Kratos can lose. I mean, imagine this - you’ve just killed Ares, The Cerberus, Perseus, Hercules, The Hydra and Zeus knows what else and suddenly a cocky half-demon half-human freak attacks you - you shure would think something like “That guy doesn’t know who he’s messing with” (which is actually true) or “That guy will be long dead even before he gets 10 feet in front of me”, or “I’m gonna kill that ********* for a matter of seconds” and other stuff like that and, or, in simple terms, you are shure to underestimate him. Which means that half the battle is lost…
And, besides, the outcome of the battle pretty much depends on the scenario. By which I mean vitally important factors like who attacks first, or even more important - what weapons do Kratos and Dante have. Like, let’s say Dante is armed with Force Edge and Rebelion and Kratos - with The Blades of Chaos, or Kratos is armed with The Blade of Olympus and Dante’s armed with Rebelion…

So before starting with this discussion, I think we should first determine factors like the ones I mentioned above…

Lunar6, zelda series does have RPG elements in it, a game can be adventurous and an RPG, Zelda is more action and adventure centred in game play than final fantasy series, but i think as a whole series its mainly been an RPG game. Any way do Cloud vs Link

“These feats are one of the reasons for me to think that Kratos can lose. The thing is, Kratos is NOTHING like that. Like I said earlier, Kratos is far more serious than Dante is: He doesn’t bluff, nor does he say things to provoke those he’s fighting against (whenever he does say things like that though, he has the utmost intention of carrying it out, which he has since day one). Otherwise, he’s indifferent to a point that he would acknolwedge Dante about as much as he did Perseus (which wasn’t alot AT ALL until Perseus challenged Kratos to a duel). Unless the enemy has an intention to kill him, Kratos won’t care in the slightest bit of who even someone like Dante is, much less would he care about their intentions if it has nothing to do with him. The closest thing he ever said to something like that is to Theseus: “Let me pass, and I will let you live, old man.” and guess what happened in the subsequent duel? Kratos took the guy’s spear, impaled him with it, and then smashed his head with a doorway.

Also, if Kratos is preoccupied with another thought, he’ll flat-out ignore damn-well anything that’s standing at him (for example, the Kraken in God of War 2 was perched right at the edge of the cliff beconing for Kratos to fight it, but Kratos, at first, was just TOO pissed off to do anything but call for Zeus to face him).

So in terms of Kratos’ attitude to his opponents, his feats are completely irrelevent. In other words, if he’s fighting Dante, he’ll take Dante as seriously as he takes even the weakest enemy imaginable if it were pitted against him, and that’s pretty damn serious.

Dante would win. Not easily at all. But over a long and drawn out battle. Both are equally good and both have almost equal achievements. Also for those saying that Kratos is immortal because he’s a god… please… he’s KILLED GODS! So that doesn’t make him immortal by any means. And at times gods and monsters in Greek mythology can be called demons. Well not really the gods because that’s more of strech but in essence they are the same thing.

Dante on the other hand has had experience dealing with Thunder and Lightening (DMC1) so Crono’s Rage wouldn’t be that effective. Kratos has no experince against guns but really Ebony and Ivory not going to do much. Equal footing in weapons and magic.

Now if we talk experince wise, Dante has more experience. Yes Kratos was a Spartan Captian and bred for war but can anyone give me a birthdate on Dante? I mean he’s so old that his father is now only a forgotten myth. Dante wins here.

Kratos needing help. That is a down side but really he’s achieved a few greater achievements than Dante. I mean dying and then escaping Hell is something very noteworthy. Dante does not visit hell but instead the Demon realm. But back to Kratos needing help… he doesn’t need it all the time but people tend to intervene.

Can they die? Dante has yet to die but that goes without saying for many characters. Kratos has died twice. Once because of a “god killing sword” that left a gaping wound. Kratos actually landing a hit on Dante is abit of a strech. Dante is fast. VERY fast. His arcobatics will make Kratos seem like a tank because that’s what he is. Kratos is a tank Dante would have trouble actually “denting” him. ANd in the event that Kratos does land a hit on Dante we don’t know if it’ll actually kill him. Defeating either would require the “god killing sword”.

Unfortunately for Kratos, Dante has much more experince in disarming his oppenent. Kratos would come out swinging but Dante’s agility would lead to Kratos downfall in the end by stealing the sword and then using it on Kratos. Whether or not Kratos comes back from the dead is a moot point since this battle is to the death and not who can stay dead.

  40. AvatarTommy
    40

Dante would win even if Kratos would stab him 100 times Dante would wise crack and study his faults he would put himself at risk just to study the area he’s far cleverer than kratos
Devil May Cry 4, in the first cinematic young Nero throws the rebellion sword straight through Dante’s stomach then he said “Your better than i thought, I can almost say i underestimated you”, pulls himself from the statue and carries on fighting.
Whereas Kratos DYING then coming back time and time again from hell, PLEASE!
Dante should keep Kratos on a lead.

  42. AvatarAaron
    42

Ok I will tell you all what is wrong with Dante and Kratos being immortal. Dante and Kratos are Immortal true but they aren’t invicible. Immortal means live forever and Invincible means… well they can’t die. Dante has an advantage towards Kratos as Kratos has an advantage over ante.

Dante’s advantage is that he has the power of a human and a demon. Half breeds are always stronger then a pure breed. When you play as him in DMC 1 when you fight the devil Dante has infinite DT. His DT powers up all his natural abilities such as: Jumping, speed, close quarters combat, guns, swords, and health regenteration. It gives him unatural abilities as well such as, Flying shooting fire from his hands, and makes him look cool.

Kratos has enough strength to come close to Dante as his demon form. He has godly powers, an arsenal of magic.

So I think it’s kinda a dead even battle but with their powers they mightcause an explosion of heir blades colliding to either
A: Destroy their weapons forcing a CQC
B: Cause an explosion to kill them both
C: Cause a massive explosio nd causing them to fuse together making some super awesome lookin powerful demon

All in all something cool will happen. Now if it were Nero vs Kratos it would maybe be Nero. But its my opinion and everone has their own opinion.

ok i really didnt finish that , but basically neither of them can really die , not because they are immortal but because they both already have many times and cheated death, however , i dont think you can say that kratoes has more stamina than dante, but in the end if kratoes had no support , he woulndt have made it out in either case , gaia helps him in two and hades helps him in one, so basically if he didnt have the gods full support dante could win because he would have demonic energies that guide him out of hell , while kratoes needed the help of a god / titan to escape
