Dog, the Racist Bounty Hunter? Duh!

Friday, November 2nd, 2007 at 9:35 am by Jami

A&E has suspended production on Doug “Dog” Chapman’s show, Dog the Bounty Hunter, after the National Enquirer broadcast a tape of a private conversation in which Chapman uses racial invectives describing a young woman whom his son is dating.

Okay, this is total bullshit.

First, is anyone really surprised that Dog uses the “N” word? He’s Dog the BOUNTY HUNTER, not Dog the Fluffy Chow Chow Spreading Tolerance and Good Will Among the Masses. He hunts down mother fuckers who skip bail for a living. This is not someone you invite over for polite conversation.

Second, this is a private conversation that has been taken completely out of context. Who knows. The woman in question might indeed be a street walker or she might be Mary Fucking Stewart. We don’t know. Certainly it’s in extreme poor taste to insult someone based on their ethnicity, racist even. But if every single personal conversation is now up for public criticism, well shit, I’d never be able to work anywhere again. As bad as my language on this thing is, there are truly horrendous things that I’ve said in private that would get me lynched if I were in the public eye should they be taken out of context. People say hateful shit once in a while no matter how high and mighty they may think they are and in this country, we have that right goddammit! If we let Big Brother watch over every little thing we say, we might as well let Big Brother converse for us.

Third, anyone saying that he’s a role model needs to seriously have their head examined. Just cause someone is on the tele doesn’t automatically make them a role model.

Fourth, as far as I can tell, Dog is an equal opportunity asshole. He’ll take you down no matter what your ethnicity. Sure, he might say some really racist stuff in his private life. But his actions certainly don’t demonstrate a hatred to any one particular ethnicity. He has the right to be racist all he wants as long as it doesn’t affect his work. Whoa, that’s a very odd thing to write.

A&E should continue production of his show. Chapman should apologize on air. And if people really have a problem with him, don’t watch the show and let the ratings speak for themselves. Hell, if Imus can get another gig, certainly Dog deserves his day.

I’m white and I say nigger all the time. I don’t say it in front of a mass of black people because I’m a scrawny cracka, but when I talk with my friends (out of whom, I have several black friends) I don’t hold back, and they don’t care.

It’s not a word we should be scared of. That’s all.

ya i agree with all you say, but in todays “PC” world I doubt that will happen. If people jump on this I can see it ruining dog’s career and life.

Oh and if anyone has seen his wife they should know he is white trash, I don’t know why anyone would expect anything different from him.

just being a pop culture Nazi, his name is Dwayne not Doug, on the other hand ,even though what he said is bad it was a recorded private conversation, it was a very underhanded move from whoever made the recording public; I personally believe that issues amongst family must be solved in private, even if they involve such bigotry.

I agree 100% with you, Jami. People have the right to be racist, as terrible and disgusting as it might be. And we have the right to choose not to expose ourselves to it. This shouldn’t have become an issue that would get his show taken off the air, even just for a short while. Leave it up to the viewers, who can show their disapproval by not tuning in. Unfortunately, from A&E’s point of view, they have to worry about their overall ratings, and they lack the fortitude to stand up for freedom of speech (which shouldn’t really be an issue in this case as it was a private conversation) and keep him on, fearing that it could result in viewers getting the wrong ideas about what they support, causing them to lose viewership.

Strangely enough, I am typing about this race issue while listening to Saul William’s ‘The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust’. Strange timing. o_O

I’m sure A&E is waiting to see what the response will be from the public and, more importantly, the advertisers sponsoring the show. I don’t see this ruining his career no matter which way it goes. It’s not like it’s going to stop him from hunting bounties. I agree with Jamie, this was a private conversation and that should have stayed private. If you want to blame someone, blame the Enquirer and all those people who love reading about the private lives of celebrities.

Hell, the government of Mexico wanting him arrested for illegally removing Andrew Luster from their country (never mind that Luster was there illegally, trying to escape arrest for multiple counts of rape) hasn’t stopped Dog from hunting bounties, I doubt this will.
