The punch line is a riff on an old stereotype. But in this case, it makes for the funnies.

Stereotypes are an interesting phenomenon in any culture. They help us make snap judgments about whole swaths of people without actually having to bother to meet them. And although we’re probably loath to admit it out loud, we have our own sets of personal stereotypes that we’ve built up over the years. We categorize people to make it easier to interact with new people for the first time.

The trick is to not let these preconceived notions rigidly define others and always be willing to challenge our own personal notions at all times. I think it’s probably in human nature to stereotype. It’s probably more accurate to say it’s in our nature to categorize our surrounding, people included. If we are able to accept this, then I think we can each personally move beyond simple categorization and really take the time to get to know each other.
