Chow Yun Fat’s Dragonballs
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007 at 9:22 am by JamiOh god, I think I’m going to barf now. Chow Yun Fat is joining the cast of Dragonball. Please, say it isn’t so! No word on who he’s playing, but no good can of this. Let’s see, who else have we got here. Justin Chatwin as Goku. That right there is a deal breaker for me. Saw him in The Invisible which was kind of meh. I was hoping for someone more along the lines of a Tony Jaa for Goku. Let’s move on. James Marsters as Piccolo. Okay, so the thought of seeing James Marsters all greened out with cute little antennae on his head is quite amusing. And we know he’s got some action skills and that he can play a fairly disgruntled bad ass. I already lamented Jamie Chung as Chi Chi. We just got word that Emma Rossum will play Bulma. She was Christine in The Phantom of the Opera movie that came out in 2004. Seems like a weird choice. How do you go from wildly successful Broadway adaptation to shitty anime movie?
There is one, and only ONE, possible good that may, and I mean may in the slightest way possible, may make this worth watching. I know, I know, sounds like a bunch of horse chips. How could this travesty be watchable. Hear me out.
Stephen Chow is producing.
Hmmm… now at least my eye brow is going up. I heart the Stephen Chow. I’ve only seen a fraction of his work, but I’ve always been impressed. He has a knack for taking regular people and turning them into extraordinary characters which makes much of the casting of this stupid thing thus far seem a bit odd. But if anyone can make a diamond out of a steaming pile of festering manure, it would be Stephen Chow. I’m not ready to endorse this at all, but at least now I am kind of interested in seeing how this develops.
