Children of the Remake of Dune

Wednesday, December 26th, 2007 at 11:20 am by Jami

If it weren’t for the writers’ strike, director Peter Berg says he’d be knee deep in sand right now remaking Dune. Seems kind like overkill at this point, doesn’t it? Sci-Fi Channel did a pretty good job with their Dune mini-series and the Children of Dune follow up. And David Lynch’s version has had a whole mess of releases and re-releases. Okay, so that one wasn’t so good. But forget a remake. We’ve got enough Dune for now.

If you want to impress us, hook us up with a God Emperor of Dune! We want sand trout! We want sand trout! And a giant Man/Worm/God thingy!

The Dune miniseries was done very well. But I wasn’t thrilled with the Children of miniseries since it cannibalized the second and third books of the series into a weird mish-mash amalgam. If they are going to make new Dune movies, I think they should work with the prequel series that Brian Herbert has written with Kevin J. Anderson.

Just as long as they combine the acting quality of the first movie with the other qualities of the miniseries, it could be good. That, and have Patrick Stewart once again play Gurney Halleck.
