Writers Strike, Bad for Writers, Good for Video Games

Reader William Schwartz sent me this article in Joystiq that basically says that while the writers strike may suck for television, it’s actually been quite good for gaming. Tired of reruns and reality, some people are turning to their game systems for entertainment. I would also offer that shitty shows like “Aliens in America” also may contribute to people turning their backs on broadcast television. Of course, the hardcore gamers have already left the building and spend more time gaming than watching the tube anyway. Still, I think it’s a valid argument.

This kind of sucks for the writers. The networks will take a long time to meet their demands, if it happens at all. The gaming industry shows no signs of slowing down. If more and more people turn to gaming for their mindless entertainment time, they might not bother coming back even if a deal is struck.

No deal from the networks, shrinking audiences anyway. Man, it sucks to be a writer these days.

Thanks for the heads up William.
