Marlon Wayans

Marlon Wayans has been cast as Ripcord for the live action G.I. Doh! movie. Variety describes Ripcord as the leader of the Joes which is news to me.

I’ve never been much of a fan of Marlon’s work. I don’t particularly find the younger Wayans brothers that funny anyway. In terms of acting chops, the only non-comedy that I’ve seen Marlon in was Dungeons and Dragons. That shouldn’t really count because one, he was supposed to be the comedy relief, and two, he falls victim to the trend of black characters always dying in action movies while surrounded by perfectly killable white characters. Meh.

His previous work does not inspire much in the way of confidence. But the rest of the cast has been quite impressive thus far. I really hope that bit about him being the leader is a mistake. I suppose anyone can point a gun and pretend to shoot the damn thing, but come on, can you really see Little Man leading a charge against a Cobra stronghold?

Maybe this will be his chance to be more that comedy relief. But seriously, Ripcord: leader of the Joes? What happened to Flint and Duke? I hope that was just a mistake by the writer.

Just read about this on AICN. A Wayans brother can’t be good, Especially the brother that screwed up the D&D movie!!!
DAMN I hope that’s a screw up on the part of the writer. I liked Ripcord, even had the toy, and now Hollywood goes and craps on it. And here I was starting to have hopes for this project.

Outside of Living Color and Scary Movie 1 that’s about the only good movie he’s been in.
Of course I’ve only seen it once, and I was in a hotel room with a neked stripper sleeping next to me, so maybe my memory of seeing it is a litttle biased, but it was one of those movies like Trainspotting that you only need to see once to get the full effect. Totally F**ked up movie, but really really good
