Ms. Dewey

Reader Sammy Dixon just introduced me to Ms. Dewey.
Ms. Dewey brings sexy back to what is otherwise a fairly dull process. Let’s face it, long gone are the days when people were amazed that search queries returned pages and pages worth of results. It’s time to kick it up a few notches and that’s exactly what Ms. Dewey wants to do.

Once you get passed the intro, you’re presented with a search field. If you wait around too long typing nothing, Ms. Dewey will start to get impatient. Just type in your phrase or word and the search engine powering the site will go look for results while you watch Ms. Dewey do something. You’ll get your results after Ms. Dewey makes some sort of comment on your search. Most of the time, you’ll some sort of generic response. “Gundam” didn’t generate any specific animation. But if you type in “hormones” or “Britney Spears,” Ms. Dewey should say something directly related to those search terms.

Click on “Best of Dewey” and you’ll see some specific animations related to various searches. The “country” one is kind of silly.
It’s a neat concept and a lot of fun to play around with if you want to kill some time. The animations are pretty smooth as well, although I’m checking it on a fairly fast connection. And the actress they chose is quite charming even when she’s getting bored with you not typing in anything. Not sure how well Ms. Dewey will catch on. As entertaining as it is, the actual search is not as fast as Google or Yahoo. But I certainly applaud them for doing something different.
