Deathly Hallows Part I and II

Deathly Hallows

After reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (yes, I actually read something without pictures and word balloons) and taking a few moments to absorb what I had just read, my first thought was how in the bloody hell will they fit all this into even a three hour film? If the rumors are true, we won’t have to worry. The film adaptation of Deathly Hallows will be split into two films. I imagine they’ll be filmed back-to-back and hopefully be released within the same year. It will be really frustrating to wait a full year to see the ending. Sure, at this point most of us know what happens anyway, but it would really suck to have to wait that long to see it on the screen.

There are also rumors of the studio courting a big name director, like Steven Spielberg, to bring the series home. That could be interesting. If it is indeed Spielberg and he does indeed take the gig, it’ll be interesting to see how he interprets the material and how well it matches up with the previous films. I think the Potter films have been getting better and more open, really stretching what they do with the material while still rooted in the soul of the books.

When the Potter films finally come to an end, what giant fantasy franchise will take their place? Will Narnia rise to the challenge? Will anyone bother with another Eragon film? Or is there something waiting in the wings that hasn’t yet hit the mainstream? What say you mighty readers?

I for one, can only hope someone decides to take up the Wheel of Time series. I know this will probably never EVER happen, but a guy can dream right?

I personally have no faith left in the Harry Potter films. They are all just so terrible. The last movie was just pure disgusting. I can’t imagine how much the next film will be missing, and Deathly Hollows… Well, if they make it two part then damn. But I rather doubt it. It’ll suck.

The only thing I’m looking forward to is seeing more of Evanna Lynch’s acting.

As for future films.. I hope there will be no more Eragon films. The book alone irks me with abundance of copied material. Narnia I’ve never liked for its religious undertone. I kinda have high hopes for the Golden Compass, but the first movie was slightly disappointing. I totally didn’t expect a LOTR kind of deal.

what’s only 6 months, when Star Wars fan had to wait 3 years between each movie of the trilogies, and a mere 16 between EP VI and EP I? Be patient, young… erm… padawan? :D .

Not sure I’ll watch these Harry Potter movies with great interest. They cut just too much things in there. The more they cut, the more disappointed I get.

I’ve been relatively disappointed in the films since Chamber of Secrets. While I understand how impossible it is to fit EVERYTHING in, there were moments in the films that could have easily included just a moment longer to explain a whole lot. For instance movie-only fans have yet to really understand who the Marauders are, what the whole Padfoot, Prongs, Moony and Wormtail thing was with the map, and the connection to Harry.

Simpler than that, the last few movies have removed all traces of the two eldest Weasley brothers. While Charlie doesn’t have much to do in the remaining movies, Bill has played a rather important part. His marriage to Fleur, the events at their wedding, and the chapters where Harry and the gang hung out at his new cottage will all have to either be removed or hastily explained now.

… However I know I’ll be there on opening day to see them all because I’m a great big geeky sucker like that.
