Look, if Robert Englund is involved, who cares if they're remaking it. And the original nightmare is not as good as The Dream Warrior.

The new Texas Chainsaws wasn't terrible by any stretch of the imagination. It was actually an improvement over the original. The original chainsaw was about The Sawyers, the new Chainsaw was a re-imagined universe featuring The Hewitts. If you want to waste your time and breath complaining about a Texas Chainsaw movie, need I suggest the horrendous 'New Generation' one? or what about 'Leatherface'?

I like the Hewitts. They're a far more creepier family than The Sawyers.

While I'm totally with Nick on the side of "this sounds like a horrible idea and those responsible for this must be sacked, and then have those who appointed them sacked", I cannot totally write off the idea of movie remakes, as some have been wonderful.

Example off the top of my head being the Ocean's 11 remake, which holds as one of my favorite movies ever. I think the key really lies in telling the same story in a new way, instead of completely disrespecting the material.

Hell, under the idea of "all remakes are bad", we'd never have the Batman or Bond relaunches, both of which have made me a happy nerd...I just really think these ideas need the proper respect towards the mythos, as opposed to strip mining them for everything it's worth.

OH WHAT THE FUCKING HELL!!!!!

Why not just re-release the original to the theatres, they've done that with plenty of other films, and it would be just as good. Make it a xxth aniversary re-release deal.

FFS Burn Hollywood BURN!!

"If they’re not watching Nightmare on Elm Street, maybe they don’t want to watch Nightmare on Elm Street."

-Exactly!

Making anything for "a new generation of fans" is an insult to the very audience you expect to see the feature in the first place. Unless something was a miss in your original content (whatever it may be) you don't need to fix anythig. Freddy is dated but it's a statement about an era, which the audience understands. Or at least they should. That's why these things never work. You can't remake history. Just learn from it.

I am interested in a Freddy without Robert England though, I'm sorry to admit.
If done correctly, it might work. However, I HIGHLY doubt it. Dream fear is an interesting thing. Although leave it to Hollywood to lack original story telling. They should just get really inspired from these classics. Not re-make them.

I would love for Hollywood to step up and admit they wanted to re-make Freddy but instead make something more original but based on the same mythos. Start a whole genre based on these great Horror classics and see where that goes. We have our dream icon. Take the story and run with it. They have to pay the royalties anyway, right?

Loose the glove, "maybe" make him a burn victim still and give him a new weapon to terrorize the senseless youth in the films. We all know it's going to be a Freddy rip off anyway. We also know it won't pass for the original.

Ultimatly, it's a pile of garbage, money making scheme that is a slap in everyone's face in the end anyway. So we still loose. That doesn't mean it can't make the guilty pleasure list.

Viva La Horror!
