Batman: Gotham Knight

Monday, February 18th, 2008 at 1:33 am by Jami

Two people sent this to me while I was at the con and I’m impressed. Batman: Gotham Knight is a direct to DVD six-part animated series that bridges the gap between Batman Begins and Dark Knight. Directed by Bruce Timm, it’s written by a who’s who of Batman comics, Brian Azzarello, Alan Burnett, Jordan Goldberg, David S. Goyer, Josh Olson and Greg Rucka.

The art is clearly anime and manga influenced. The character designs remind me a lot of Kia Asamiya’s version of Batman, Batman: Child of Dreams. Asamiya’s action sequences are some of the best Batman fights I’ve seen in a comic and it looks like they’re translating they style of hyper action in the animation. Although I like the house animated style that DC has established with its syndicated cartoons, I’m glad they’re trying something new with this series.

Thanks to Hawk and Aegis for the tip.

Wow that looks really cool, I wonder though how well it will fit with the movies Batman Begins seemed to be heading directly into Dark Knight. Either way they managed to make Bats look pretty slick which is always a good thing.

Maybe it’s because of the Animatrix references, but it looks like there is a little bit of Peter Chung in there as well.

Yeah, I think the artist behind that movie and the Samurai program Animatrix short is doing a piece.

I am very much looking forward to this.
