Tommy Lee Jones is Lost in Translation

There’s an exchange between Scarlett Johansson and Bill Murray in Lost in Translation that I feel explains, in some way, what you are about to witness. Johansson’s character, Charlotte, asks Murray, Bob, what he’s doing in Japan. He responds:

Uh, a couple of things. Taking a break from my wife, forgetting my son’s birthday. And, uh, getting paid two million dollars to endorse a whiskey when I could be doing a play somewhere… But the good news is, the whiskey works.

Keep that quote in mind as you watch this:

Kinda want some omu rice now. Yum!

There are twelve of these Japanese commercials starring Tommy Lee Jones as an alien exploring Japan. My favorite one is his visit to the hot springs where Tommy Lee Jones demonstrates his invincible table tennis jutsu.

I think he even speaks Japanese in a few of these. You know, I would totally watch a cable channel that was nothing but Japanese commercials. They are full of wacky awesome!

Thanks to reader William Schwartz for the heads up.

Wow, these are almost as awesome as the Post Water ads. Maybe more so.

Definitely entertaining. I read somewhere that the stars in these types of commercials have clauses in their contracts that said they will never be played outside of Japan. I guess Youtube doesn’t count, lol.

The ping pong one was so freaking funny. I shot soda out of my nose from laughing so hard.
