Russia Fears Happy Tree Friends

Happy Tree Friends

Responding to complaints pf excessive violence by Rossvyazokhrankulutra (can you say that five times fast?), a government watchdog group, Russian adult animation channel 2X2 took “Happy Tree Friends” and “The Adventures of Big Jeff” (never heard of that one) off the air. 2X2 general manager, Roman Sarkisov, said, “We did not argue with Rossvyazokhrankulutra — the cartoons are shorts of a few minutes each that our viewers have seen hundreds of times. Rather than argue we took them off air, although any television criminal drama in Russia is a hundred times more violent than these cartoons.”

That actually kind of frightens me. I can’t imagine much worse than cute fluffy critters getting their faces melted off. Actually, I kind of can because I’ve seen Saw and Hostel and House of 1000 Corpses. But if Russian crime dramas are more violent than that, wow. They win at television.

Also, they have an adult animation channel! Adult Swim is okay, but Cartoon Network’s schedule restricts the more adult programming to evenings and nights. This 2X2 channel plays foreign adult-oriented animation 24/7! I wonder if they show the hentai after hours. Tentacles just make animation better I always say.

The station will file an official appeal after they conduct an official analysis of the Happiness.

    - I’m pretty sure Big Jeff is an English cartoon about a naked australian - it might even be one of Aardman’s non-plasticene efforts, I can’t remember for certain
