Mila Kunis Joins Max Payne

Max Payne

Mila Kunis of “Family Guy” and “That 70’s Show” fame stars opposite Mark Wahlberg in the live action adaptation of Max Payne. Though I think Kunis will be just fine as an assassin out for revenge and though I quite like Markey Mark in action films, video game movies have yet to impress me. There is always the “just plain dumb fun” aspect to these films that can be entertaining given the right circumstances, but generally, video game movies work best as in-game cinematics. Once you extend those to a full length feature, you begin to see that writing for one medium does not always translate.

I have heard good things about the Silent Hill movie so I will have to check that out at some point. But the genre has yet to hit its sweet spot. I think a movie based on a shooter probably has a decent chance. Doesn’t seem to be too hard to pump out a semi decent action flick. And with the built in audience, you’re guaranteed at least a strong a opening night. And it’ll be nice to see Kunis on the big screen. So who knows. Having not ever played Max Payne, I have no real basis to judge this thing. Any gamers out there think this is a good casting?

I think if they stay true to the Max Payne character, and story, then it could be a pretty good Hard-Boiled cop Neo Film-Noir type movie. Personally I’ve been looking forward to it ever since I read in the game manual when Max Payne 1 came out that they were talking about making a movie, I believe they were trying to get Matt Damon at the time though, I’ll have to look at my manual again.

Silent Hill is a pretty good movie. I never played the game, but it works well even if you haven’t. And don’t be too quick to approve the shooter/movie translation. After all, DOOM sucked.

That’s for damn sure. I was afraid that one killed The Rock’s career.

killed the rock’s career? but it had a whole scene in first person!

seriously, the best game adaptation was shoot-em-up, if only it had been a game first

I’d have to say Max Payne is different. It’s quite established as being a Film Noir type of game. The action was great, but if it’s over exaggerated then you’re going to ruin the film and the game.

Too many bullet time sequences will also ruin it. Hell they can do away with them entirely and it’ll still be great.

P.S. I’m so hoping for a baseball bat scene.

I never played Silent Hill, but the movie was not very good, sure the effects were cool, but the writing had me rolling my eyes constantly. it’s good dumb fun, and if you keep that in mind it’s quite enjoyable.

Max Payne looks like it will at least be the same. they don’t have Uwe Boll, so it can’t be THAT bad.
