Kotex Wants to Protect Aussie Beavers
Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 at 9:27 am by JamiApparently, the Advertising Standards Bureau in Canberra, Australia has received a unusually large number of complaints about the ad. Man, and I thought the U.S. was prudish.
Of all the euphemisms used to describe a woman’s vagina, “beaver” ranks among the least offensive. The ad is certainly cheeky, maybe a tad tasteless. But offensive?
It’s probably unfair for me to judge what people might find offensive, especially coming from the male perspective. Most guys don’t care what people name our genitals. Hell, we name them ourselves. I was under the impression that women use nick names for their fluffy bits just as much as men.
If the genders were reversed and this was an ad for some wang cream and it featured guys walking around with giant boa constrictors wrapped around their pants, would there be the same sort of out cry? Are women calling in to complain? Are the men? And if this played during the Super Bowl, would our FFC begin the decency witch hunt all over again?
Thanks to reader Aegis for the tip.
