Hulu? Who Knew?

Bad pun, I know.

This is a full half hour episode of “What’s Happening,” one of the first sitcoms I actually remember watching and laughing my ass off growing up. I must have caught it in syndication because the show ended in ‘79. I was 2 then, but not really watching the tele. Kinda wished they still ran reruns of this today.

Hulu has the first two seasons of What’s Happening online, streamable with limited commercial interruption. They’ve got a decent slate of other shows, including “Firefly” (thanks to reader Kevin Bahrt for sniffing this out), as well as full feature length movies.

All online. All free.

You will have to register to watch R-rated films like Usual Suspects. They bleep out curse words and I can only assume that they censor nudity. But for the most part, Hulu serves up full television episodes and movies for free.

Hulu is a joint venture between NBC Universal and News Corp serving content from FOX, NBC, MGM, Sony Pictures Television, Warner Brothers, Lionsgate, and more. So no one’s going to be taking these clips down anytime soon. AZM readers outside the U.S. will have to confirm whether or not you can view these clips. And if you hate advertising of all forms, the commercial interruptions are a bit of a pain. But for the most part, this is a pretty cool site. It’ll certainly help me stay awake late at night while plowing through Erfworld pages and the like.

Poke around for yourself and see if you can’t find some crazy nostalgic show that brings you back.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, it’s been confirmed that if you are outside the U.S., Hulu doesn’t like you. So I guess it’s back to other methods of acquisition for the rest of the world. :(

Man, that’s disappointing. It must be a licensing thing.

I think the advertising is similar to television base, meaning the servers are kept somewhere and then advertising is sold locally, because when watching the first episode of Firefly the other day only half the designated ads actually played.

Haha… Didn’t realize so many people here were Canadian! Seems like every other post you make that has a video the poor bastards can’t get to it cause they’re in Canada. Sorry our northern brothers and sisters!
Maybe someday these World Wide Websites will actually apply World Wide….

I’ve been on hulu for a while now as part of the beta and it’s a very cool site. Tons of clips and some decent shows. If you miss an ep of a show on fox or NBC, you can usually see it there the next morning. As for the international access, I had no idea.

I can’t believe this, I read this entry on hulu today at 11 am, its now 8 at night and I’m just done watching stuff; I blame Jami for getting me into this; sir something this good should be illegal, seriously great programing and lots of genres to choose from. As for the movie section theres a lot of work to be done since theres only a few feature films you can see, still I hope they will upload more in the future. BTW i just f”Viper” come on the transforming gimmick was viper’s shtick, but gotta admit pants went crunchy immediately at the presence of the Hoff. As for our friends around the world, have in mind this is a young sit e I think they might expand as it mature, at least to Canada; its the less they can do after using commercials with William shatner on it.
