Stan Lee, Please Stop

Rise and Fall of Stan Lee

Because none of their executives apparently never actually saw Stripperella, Disney will produce three new projects from Stan Lee. Nick Ratchet features a private detective. Blaze is some kind of action adventure thing. Tigress stars a woman with tiger-like instincts. So, what, she gets a sudden craving for wildebeest deer (Ha! Thanks Norm)?

There is no better proof that Stan Lee is the ultimate hype man than this deal right here. If any one of us came to Disney with any of these three ideas, we’d never even make it to a pitch meeting. Not only does Stan the man get the green light, but he gets support to turn them into franchises. Ugh.

I suppose Pixar could save the day. They’re about the only good thing about Disney these days.

Lest we forget the debacle that was Spiderman 3. Oh, look!–Spiderman can do the tango…… I never thought the nerd portion knew a deeper hell than Prom Night.

@Michael_C: Uh, I’m pretty sure the only contribution Stan Lee had to Spider-man 3 is the character of Spider-man itself… Take it up with the screenwriters…

Anywho, I don’t think Stan Lee is as much “hype man” as he’s just old school. I think his ideas are still stuck in a time in comics where everything was very black & white: the good guys were good and the bad guys were evil. In the comics world now where so much has become varying shades of gray, I think his ideas and character development are somewhat lacking.

Stan Lee created some of the best known super heroes in the genre. Whilst he will shamelessly put his name on anything you cannot say that he hasn’t ever struck gold before.

So based on less than 50 words, at the most, that have surfaced on the internet people are willingly slamming his next projects. At least wait until there is some hard evidence that they suck. I know the interweb has become the place to voice your opinions on every thing every but if this trend continues we’ll be bitching about things before the idea has even formed.

To that I say that Jami’s post on 30 May was contrite and he seems to have lost his own personality merely spouting out the same stereotypical views on…..Hamburgers/wrestling/fanfic (delete as appropriate)

You got your Zoology a little mixed up bra! Tigers live in the jungles of Asia, and Wildebeest live in the plains of Africa! Tigress would get random cravings for deer!

Devin, that’s my point. I know it’s become something of an expectation from him, but I wouldn’t allow something beloved to be thrown to the masses. Sit by and watch them ballet Spiderman onto the screens?! No, attack with a vicious tabletop figurine and splash V8 in their faces!
