When I was at Best Buy Tuesday (grabbing a copy of Sweeney Todd), I noticed that they had an unusually high number of copies of Alvin and the Chipmunks, even with like 5-8 stacked at each register. Could it be that they increased the initial shipment to appear as if the DVD was a hit? I know that in the late 90s, they were doing this with a lot of albums (specifically in the boy band realm, that's how Nsync had the 1-week record), so I wouldn't put it past them do pull the same trick.
