Whatever happened to people using sidewalks to get across town? And the gravelly voice is getting waaay too cliché.

Hey, any trailer graced with Morricone's scoring is automatically awesome. We'll see what happens when it's replaced by Robert Rodriguez's music.

NOOO Frank Miller, STAY AWAY FROM THE SPIRIT!

The Spirit is more of a lighthearted guy, doesn't really consider himself a superhero...I am SO not happy about this.

I feel like I'd need to know more about the graphic novel before passing judgement on the preview.

I'm a fan of the style, but it seemed like The Spirit was tripping over the rooftops. Not exactly graceful. This could be the "realism" kicking in, or it could be a parody of itself.

Or, it could just be a clumsy stuntman.

You know, it's kind of funny. There's a bit of Will Eisner's light-hearted tongue-in-cheek dialogue in there, especially with the music. The internal monologue sounds like a parody of dark and gritty comic book series (not THE dark and gritty, but dark and gritty in general).

The Spirit isn't necessarily DARK AND GRITTY, but the innovative thing about it is that it could be if it wanted to. There's an odd cross between cartoony, creative, and realistic in there... but it's mostly an abstract version of pulp. Notable mainly because it consistently tried new things in the comic book form.

Which is why a filmed version is odd, unless, like Sin City, it's utilizing comic book techniques for the filmed version.

Maybe.

For a good modern take on the series, check out Darwyn Cooke's recent run.
