Minute Men

So it’s kind of sick to look forward to seeing this photo in the movie in light of the incident that follows (fucking Comedian, such a fucking asshole), but I’m fucking excited! The detail is just spot on. Seems like Zack Snyder is using the comic as a story board for the film which is either lazy as hell or frigging brilliant. Still not sold on Ozymandias or the new Nite Owl, but everything else I’ve seen looks like it’s ripped right off the page. *fan droooool*

There’s also news that along with the Watchmen movie, Warner Brothers plans to release an animated DVD movie based on the Tales of The Black Freighter featured throughout Watchmen. The DVD will also include a documentary style film based on the original Nite Owl’s Under the Hood autobiography also featured throughout the comic. That cuts the Watchmen movie down from a sixteen billion hour epic to a 3 hour theatrical release with a 4.5 hour DVD cut after it gets tired of kicking the shit out theaters. Gerard Butler will voice the castaway in the Tales of the Black Freighter and I’m stumped for a “THIS IS…” joke. I mean, THIS IS A RAFT MADE OF DEAD FUCKING CORPSES is kinda funny but doesn’t quite fit.

Moving those two subplots into their own feature DVD is probably the only way you’d ever manage to squeeze Watchmen into the theaters. Even with those two elements out of the feature, it’s still going to be a bit tight fitting in all those flash backs and plot threads that make Watchmen a truly amazing piece of literature. That’s right! I said it! Literature!

I will be buying many tickets for this movie. I can’t wait for next year!

Hooded justice is badass, but I expected him to be more muscular looking, could be hidden by the blackness of his blackest black black shirt and mask though. PLus he is described as “built like a wrestler” and if in the film they’ve chosen old school wrestler build that’d mean, big, but not in particularly good shape.

Wow. That’s a heck of a photo! And it does count as literature: it won a Hugo and it’s one of Time Magazine’s 100 Best.

Personally, I’m glad they spun-out Black Freighter. Yes, it’s important to the plot, but it would eat up too much screen time.
