Now comes the part of the show where we combat passive aggressive back handed comments with more passive aggressive back handed comments cuz dammit, that’s what teh interwebs iz 4! Let’s get it on!

When we got the idea to take Katsucon’s Iron Artist competition to the next level, we needed to find a venue. Nick approached the Ottobar with an inkling of an idea and they loved it! They loved it so much they decided to book us on one of their biggest draws for the summer, MC Chris’s show. Needless to say there was much jumping!

As we made preparations over the next few weeks, someone on twitter suggested we try to stream it live for those who don’t live near Baltimore or have work the next day. Brilliant idea! So as I went about figuring the logistics and technical side of broadcasting, Nick went to the Ottobar to ask if any of the performers would have a problem with us streaming live. Sadly, one of them did.

yesterday was awesome and fun. my friends were happy, my fans were happy, kids that flew in from places like oklahoma and michigan were happy. all the openers were awesome. i’m excited to tour with rockets. there will be no other openers besides them, so unless you are karmella’s game you’re prolly gonna get kicked off the bill because i didn’t approve it. sry. that’s what happened last summer fyi.

Clearly a backhanded reference to Art Fight. The only date Karmella’s Game (brilliant band btw) is playing with MC Chris is the Ottobar show. And though the Ottobar was promoting us as part of the opening, MC Chris, it seems, was not at all interested. We had a choice. Cancel Art Fight or take it upstairs.

Well shit.

And then we thought, you know what, fuck it. Let’s take the second floor and let’s fucking rock the shit out of it with massive art! MASSIVE! ART!

Art Fight is fucking on! We have the entire second floor to mess with which means more room. We don’t have to wear ear plugs while arting. We can interact with spectators as they watch. We have room to give out fun prizes. We’re guaranteed streaming capability. And it’s free admission. We’re streaming and recording which gives us the possibility of putting together a little demo reel to show around to expand the show and possibly pitch it to other venues and… dare I dream… networks. This is actually the best possible position for us!

Downstairs, MC Chris will absolutely kill. The show is going to be great. Upstairs? Art Fight is going to be fucking epic! EPIC! MASSIVELY! FUCKING! EPIC!

EPIC I SAY! WHAT!

If you haven’t had a chance to toss up a suggestion for us, be sure to get your’s in before midnight tomorrow night. We’re drawing on six foot tall canvasses built by the fine folks at Morlock Enterprises so there will be a wall of art to fill. I’m almost certain we’re going to end up pulling more than just six suggestions each. There will be some additional art boards lying around so we may end up drawing things for people just hanging out. Might even be a custom toy or two thrown in the mix. I said epic, right?

NOTE: I want to make it clear that the Ottobar has been nothing but awesome to us. Sometimes the venue is at the mercy of the talent and if a big name like MC Chris says no Art Fight where there be rapping, there will be no Art Fight where there be rapping. The Ottobar didn’t have to give us the second floor, but they recognize the possible epic win and wanted to give us a chance. So much love to the Ottobar! Certainly hope we can plan future Art Fights and art shows there.
