I Can’t Believe I’m About To Post This But…

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008 at 11:10 pm by Jami

Cortharis dug up the opening scene to Uwe Boll’s Postal and, I’m going to burn in geek hell for this, but this shit is actually funny.

There is actual haha here! Yes, the end of the scene should probably have been cut. But, well fuck me, this was funny. If I can laugh at Robert Downey, Jr. in black face, certainly I can laugh at inept terrorists trying to figure out how many virgins they get to bang after fragging themselves.

The ending I’m not fond of. There are more elegant ways to jump into a title sequence that would equally serve the point. But dammit, I couldn’t help laugh at them phoning Osama.

I should now be beaten about the head and chest for publicly admitting to laughing at this. I’m so sorry I have failed the test.

Note: I did spend 2 hours sucking on marker fumes Sunday night so it’s more than possible my brain meats are damaged and my reason is less than it normally is (which is pretty broken to begin with).

The phoning Osama part is funny. You all KNOW its funny. And anyone who says otherwise are just as bad as LOTR fans who don’t admit that the trilogy is basically three movies about walking. Ask Kevin Smith.

IMO this could have been more acceptable if instead of being the plane that crashed into the tower it could have been the one that crashed into ground in PA instead… the virgins thing was pretty funny… and I thought I sent this to you before…. meh… these jerks stealing my job.
The movie as a whole doesn’t look funny in the least, and it’s also not even remotely related to the video game its “based on” like much of Uwe’s movies.
I think that’s the major problem. He doesn’t base his movies off the games, he just buys the title and makes some piece of shit that’s not related to anything. Look at his track record: House of The Dead, not even a hint of the original well detailed story from the game. Alone in The Dark… Not even remotely related to the original HP Lovecraft-ish story…
I mean come on. If you want to make video game movies MAKE VIDEO GAME MOVIES!! don’t just steal the fucking title and make this tripe.

I have had a rather withdrawn opinion about Uwe Boll ever since an Australian Gaming website had an interview with him last year, even they admitted before posting it that he didnt seem like the guy he is made out to be with his outbursts. And frankly, he didnt, while I think his movies and ergo his skills as a director are poor I think anybody who makes a career out of something as poor as movie/video game adaptions is releativly doomed to fail to critiques. while I think what he did to Lowtax was deplorable, his movies terrible and not only comparing himself to Roth or Bay but saying what he did is more inspiring is beyond my comprehension, but I would not go as far as to name him scum of the earth, or more importantly, deprive myself of an actual funny movie just because I dislike him.

Another point, Alot of critics also gave the positive reviews, albiet through gritted teeth

I’ll get this out of the way right off the bat. My godmother is a flight attendant and was supposed to be on the flight that hit first. She had the flu and called someone to cover for her and has never been able to cope with it.

I’m sorry, but I don’t feel like it will ever be acceptable to make a joke about 9/11. They try to lighten it up by having them call Osama and debate over who gets more virgins than the other. But over all? Poor taste.

I’m glad that it’s been basically walked out of and people have refused to show it. Maybe now he’ll finally off himself.

Okay, the idea of two terrorists talking about how many virgins they are about to get is humorous, and might even make a good SNL skit, but given where they are and what happens, it becomes totally uncalled for and tasteless.

There are, I think, two things to blame here, excusing your posting of this…travesty is too high-brow of a description….pile of steaming regurgitated dog crap…that works better.

    1) Marker Fumes
    2) Train-Wreck Phenomenon

I mean, I KNOW anything Ew-ie (Toilet)Bowl touches will pretty much automatically be horrible…it’s hard not to give in to the curiosity of HOW horrible it might be. It’s like seeing a train or car wreck while your driving…twisted metal, maybe fire, more than likely bodies and blood, but we can’t help but slow down to look, even if we otherwise abhor (or at least avoid) violence and destruction.

After seeing this, my curiosity has been sated. He’s reached even deeper into the well of unknowable horror, and subjected us to it. It’s not scary, it’s not even all that funny, it’s, well, Ew-ie at his most craptacular.

Sorry, no laughs from me. Not even really a smirk. The concept is cute, but I couldn’t get past the crappy look of the cockpit. I’m not a pilot, but I am a plane junkie and used to spend a lot of time at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson, and that has to be one of the crappiest cockpits that I’ve ever seen.

That aside, it was a really bad joke and the clip did nothing to improve my opinion of Boll. He is a non-entity as far as I’m concerned, right up there with Paris Hilton and others of their ilk. They’ve become such self-parodies that I just look away and shake my head in disbelief.

I agree with Kamenriderjester that this scene, or something very similar, could be a funny SNL skit, but I can’t see this being a good sign for the opening scene in a movie… I think this would be one I’d only watch to see how utterly terrible it is, and only really because I’ve been pretty far removed from the entire September 11th ordeal. I’ll say this much, though: It doesn’t seem as hard to watch (from the limited exposure here) as the MTV dub of Volcano High. Now that’s how you take a good movie and twist it into something truly awful.

Okie, dokie. Time to lose some friends . . .

That was funny, laugh-out-loud funny. Had it been done in 2000 by a different director many more people would be agreeing with me. It does, in fact, make me want to see the rest of the movie.

I rented In the Name of the King last week to remind myself why Uwe Boll was worthless as a fimlmaker and was aghast to discover that he had improved to a level a little above Sci-Fi channel/USA film production. This actually looks even better still.

I do agree with another comment made above, it would have been funnier if it had been Flight 93. Though I don’t think it would have introduced the movie as well.

The thing is..it was a saturday night live skit awhile ago and it was funny then back before all this happened. Now it’s a bit off taste as well as being unoriginal. Tis all.

Ok, I actually saw that a long while ago when this whole thing first started to get the publicity on the internets.

And I laughed my ass off…

Until they crashed into the @#$% tower.

I don’t know. I honestly wanted to see the rest of it, but I just thought that the end of the scene was too…I don’t know how to describe it…too @#$%ed up.

But I’m with you Jamie, I was cracking up for most of the clip. If this is the only part where they show the WTC getting blown to bits like that, then maybe I can excuse it. But if the whole movie goes for this same ’shock for the sake of shock’ it’s not going to be very good.

I’m probably going to DL it someplace and give it a go, but if they run the whole WTC thing into the ground it’s going to fail with me.

Kudos on the post though…and good luck with the flak.

    -Peace

To be honest I haven’t been keeping up with all the Uwe Ball hate. With that said, I found this to be quite hilarious, and I’m glad 9/11 is finally being taken light off (outside of /b/). Tasteless? Only if you’re whiny. It’s been long enough, you can stop being emo and whiny. Shit happens, and you’re not gonna get over it if you take it so seriously for the rest of your life. Call me an asshole, whatever. It was funny (yes, even the crash).

Well, you know what they say Zeigrin…if everyone goes to hell for what people seem to think they do:

    Heaven for the food.
    Hell for the parties.

I’m going to take crap for that one xD

(But really, who doesn’t want to shove a pinapple up Hitlers ass as a table game?)
