No Theater Shall Escape Green Lantern’s Light

Hal Jordan

Jack Black’s take on Green Lantern would have been some wacky comedy. There’s no doubt there would have been the haha, but it wouldn’t be right to kick off the franchise. Fortunately, that idea got scrapped. Producer Donald De Line says this first film will focus on Hal Jordan’s origin as Green Lantern and have all the action and whiz bang that we expect from a good old comic book action flick. He’s expecting a first draft fairly soon.

I’m looking forward to whatever the effects team comes up for Hal ring constructs. That would be a fun gig. Like all of these comic book movies, I think casting will be key. Honestly, I can’t think of who I’d like to see as Hal Jordan. Maybe a no name. But no one really jumps out in my mind. Who would you cast as Hal?

Josh Hartnett would make a great Hal Jordan. I really can’t think of a second choice.

Maybe if they dyed his hair or something I could see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathan_Fillion

My dad and I were working on a spec script with Dennis Quaid as Hal and Josh Hartnett as Kyle Rayner. It all depends on when in the storyline they start the movie…

Ooh, I like the Fillion Idea. Hartnett seems a bit, well, “young.”

Perhaps I do not know the Hal.

I swear to God if it’s Shia LaBouf, I’m going to stab someone repeatedly.

McDucky, I will gladly join you if it’s Shia.

Quaid is too old, I think you need someone 30ish/early 40ish, preferably the former. I think it should be a relative unknown, the problem is, that wouldn’t bring money to the project. DC isn’t as established as Marvel for making lots of bucks, so they’re going to have to get big names to get the financing. I think James Marsters could be cool, I don’t know about Nathan though. But I do think Adam Baldwin, (Jayne/Firefly) could be great as the nasty GL whose name eludes me.

My question is: do we get a Green Arrow crossover for the second movie? Then you’d have all the pieces for Dark Knight….

I like the idea of Nathan Fillion, and I know that Hal Jordan was the first GL….

but I much prefer the idea of kicking off the franchise with Kyle Rayner. Between the two of them Kyle had the more active imagination, and thusly his ring constructs would just be awesome to see on a big screen. On top of that, even though Hal was the first human GL, he eventually brought about the end to the Corps.

Perhaps I’m just getting a little tired of Kyle not getting his due. After getting passed over for the Justice League cartoons so they can have their token hero, it seems kind of raw that he gets ignored for the big screen.

I think he’s a little better suited for this generation anyway. Hal being a pilot and all, I have this sneaking fear that they’re going to try and throw a terrorist in there somewhere.

I remember a rumour on this one from way back that Ben Browder was supposed to be in talks to play (or play in) the Green Lantern movie.

Someone asked him about it at the Farscape convention of ‘04 but he said he didn’t know about it at all. So yeah, rumour disqualified. And yeah, ‘04, waaaaay back.

I think it’s an interesting idea though. He’d probably be Kyle instead of Hal. But then I’m not too familiar with Green Lantern. I’d just like to see Browder on the big screen in something other than Stargate as he’s a far more versatile actor than the opportunities provided him allow him to show.

PLEASE, no Browder! I did not like him on Farscape, I did not like him on Stargate One. I think I’d rather watch Tom Cruise as GL. Well, maybe not, but you get the point.
