Shaolin Girl!

Friday, June 6th, 2008 at 1:34 pm by Jami

Shaolin Girl is a Stephen Chow produced sequel to Shaolin Soccer. It was released in Japan back in April so it’s got to be out there somewhere, fansub or for sale. Either way, I must see this as soon as possible!

I loved Shaolin Soccer this movie looks more serious, but it looks just as awesome.

Oh my [diety]! This looks fantastic! I think I just filled the cup, and once I deal with that I’m going to try to find a way to get my hands on this movie.

Hmmm, my searching has proven to be futile. I don’t think it’s been released on DVD yet, as far as I can tell. Let the waiting commence!

DUDE! I loved Shaolin Soccer, and I love Stephen Chow, so this looks like it’ll be good times.

It looks like it was put into theaters this April, which means… a few months, probably? It might also be for Japan first, since it has several Japanese actors and comedians in it.

If I find it, I’ll let you know.

Hmm. Executive producer is Stephen Chow, but directed Katsuyuki Motohiro. It looks to be a primarily Japanese production.

Coolness! Shaolin Lacross! I just pulled up Chow on IMDB last night, and apparently a sequel to Kung Fu Hustle is in production. We’re hoping to see his sci fi movie, CJ7, tomorrow.

It’s still in the theatres in my area of Japan. I don’t know how that might factor into release dates or DVD releases, but maybe some of you do.

I was thinking about going to see it, but with the wicked price of admission these days I figure a ¥200 rental will work out just fine in a few months. Looks fun though.

Hope someone picks it up for limited release here. I’d love to see this in the theater!

Doing a little research, I don’t think this should be called a sequel to Shaolin Soccer. According to the IMDB page, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1133594/synopsis, he is only credited as producer, not as writer or director. The review there says, “Ever since the success of Stephen Chow’s Shaollin Soccer in 2001, he’s been asked time and again whether a sequel was in the works. There still isn’t, but he sort of franchised the idea out to the Japanese and served as executive producer, so the outcome of the deal, was Shaolin Girl.”
