Emily the Strange Goes to the Movies

Emily The Strange

You’ve seen her everywhere from skateboards to lunch boxes. Now she’s headed to the big screen. Dark Horse Entertainment president Mike Richardson will produce the feature and I imagine Emily creator Rob Reger will be on hand to make sure the film matches his vision for the character. No studio or director yet, but Universal has a first look deal with Dark Horse that could land the project there. Also no word on whether it will be live-action or animated. Also no real plot details, but Reger hinted that it will feature Emily’s four cats, thirteen new characters, and will lead into an Emily young adult novel coming out next year by HarperCollins.

Wow! From street art to movie theater! Freaking awesome!

So, AZM movie nerds, if Emily the Strange is live-action, who would you cast as Emily? I think Dakota Fanning would be a fun choice. It’d be nice to see her as a witty goth girl. AnnaSophia Robb from that Terabithia flick or Dakota Blue Richards from The Golden Compass would be good choices. Black wigs for all!

If only this had been made 10 years ago when Christina Ricci was still young enough. Wednesday Adams, part 2…err…3, any one?
