Tecktonik, Yelle, and Short Dick Man

At first I thought this kid was just flailing around and it amused me greatly. But when his cohorts joined in, I began to suspect there was more to this vigorous arm movement. Turns out this is a style of dance coming straight out of Paris, France called Tecktonik. That’s capital “T” because apparently the style is actually trademarked by these guys. I will have to consult with my in-house French translator (my wife) to figure out what any of this means.

Anyway, the song is a remix of Yelle’s “A Cause des Garcons.” The song made me want to dance so I thought I’d check out some more and came across this.

This is Yelle’s “Je veux te voir” (I think it translates to “I see you” or something, but I will have to check) which apparently started out as a dis song entitled “Short Dick Cuizi.” The song samples the bass from “Short Dick Man” so it makes sense. What do you say to a cute pixie when she disses you in a record? Short dick, eh. Oh yeah? Well, you’re… um… you have… short shorts… and stuff… crap.

So there you have it. Tecktonik, Yelle, and a Short Dick Man.

UPDATE: We have translation! “A Cause des Garcons” means “Because of (the) boys” and “Je veux te voir” means “I want to see you.”

this is hillarious, I went to europe at the beginning of this year and happened to see tecktonik first hand, and trust me, there are worst things than that

as for Yelle, search “parle a ma main” it has the ’stash guy too (but he sings at one point)

Tecktonik is a bit of a huge controversy in France. People either love it or hate it, with no middle ground. It is, indeed, a trademark, though the trademark originally was for events named “Tecktonick Killer”, made to promote electro dances, like hardstyle and jumpstyle, which originated in Belgium and the Netherlands, if I’m not mistaken.

Many kids love the moves, and many people find it ridiculous. and it’s not only the move, but also the whole “fashion trend” going with it that fuels the controversy. Typical attire would be skin-tight jeans, and Mullet Haircut.

“À cause des garçons” is a remix of the song sung by “À cause des garçons” (yeah, I know, very imaginative ;) ), from the 80s.

In “Je veux te voir”, she talks about a cook with short dick, and the chorus says “I want to see you in a porn movie, acting with your d*ck…” erm…

Oh, and the Tecktonik stuff was widespread through t3h intarwebs, mostly thanks (or because of) this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNdvAe78TFM

Feel free to ask if you need more info ;)

@fiftywan, oh cool! Thanks for the info. I’m always interested in new dance trends to see what my old bones are missing out on.

This cracks me up. As a Dutchman I’m very familiar with dancing to electronic music. Furthermore having absolutely crappy footwork I always used my arms instead. Some people liked it, some people hated it. And now, some fifteen years after I started dancing like that I’m apparently in style…?

    I’m stunned.

And (ironically) a Dutchman with a French last name.

The jumpstyle craze in Holland last year was horrible.

So basically it looks like a dance for people who can’t rave properly and people who can’t pop and lock properly. Drop the emo clothing and mullets, and I wouldn’t have a problem with it.

Also, I swear that I know that second song, but I have no clue why. If you want to see another weird musical phenomenon out of France, check out Nouvelle Vague - bossanova style covers of 80s new wave hits.
