20 Minutes of Diablo III Crunches Pants!

Ah, Diablo. That brings me back. I used to play quite a lot of Diablo II when it first came out. I had a group of friends who worked in UMD’s Computer Science department and we would play Diablo II and Star Craft into the wee hours of the night. Nothing beats pizza, Moutain Dew, and Zerg rush at 3 a.m. We got the expansion pack for Diablo II, but after beating it a few times, we moved on to other games. Haven’t thought about those days in a good while until now.

Diablo III is knocking on our doorsteps and from the looks of these 20 minutes of gameplay, it’s going to be messy fun. Ah, that squishy sound of fallen enemies is so satisfying. They introduce a new character class, the Witch Doctor, which doesn’t seem all that fun. But I’m more of a mele guy. I don’t need minions to do my dirty work when I have a perfectly good war hammer equipped. I love the look of the armor which was always one of my favorite features of the game. It also looks like they’ve made bosses gigantic! Check out that last guy they fight. Freaking awesome!

Now that I have my own PC and don’t have to depend on friends to set up the computer lab, I foresee many hours of Battlenet smashing demons. AZM Clan anyone?

    I’m kind of disappointed in Diablo III. I was all for it, and then I saw the gameplay trailer and was wholly underwhelmed. It looks like Diablo II with a graphical enhancement, which isn’t enough of an improvement after all this time.

    It’s been so long since Diablo II, I’ve probably forgotten what it looked like. I really like the two gigantic monsters from the gameplay footage and breaking walls and stuff. But I can see where you’re coming from. What is it, four years, and it’s pretty much the same game. Still want to play though.

    8 years since d2 was released. I never actually played d2 though. It’ll be at least 2 years more before this hits the shelves. Blizzard announced SC2 last year and we have next to no more information about its release than we did a year ago.

    Did you ever try the 400 zergling rush? A guy I know got hit with it as the protoss on an island map. Total devastation.

    The Witch doctor looks a lot like they took the lamest parts of the Druid and Necromancer and Made them their own class?
    Eh, it is pretty, but I was hoping for more awesome
    Also, having both Genders means Sorceress and Amazon are out (Maybe Assassin too, I forget their backstory) Those are my favorite classes, so I call Lame at this point

    I’ll buy it… I enjoyed the earlier ones, and the graphical improvement combined with new story is enough to get my interest up. Might be fun to have an AZM clan, if only for company on the server :)

    Any way you cut it I’m buying it. Hell I’ve been waiting for D3 since June of ‘01 (thats when LoD hit shelves fyi). So no matter how BAD it is or how AWESOME it turns out to be, the fanboy in me that wasted almost 3 years playing this game will not let me not buy it. Also the fact that I met some of my current best friends on Battle Net has a huge sway on me getting a game that is going to be played on dear old BNet again.

    After watching the game play trailer on the 28th I actually reinstalled d2 hahaha.

    Going to go and have another nerdgasm.

    The thing that I love about Blizzard games is they are multi-platform. I switched from PC to Mac last year and that’s been fine, I’m quite happy spending what little time that I do in WoW. I have two groups that I play WoW with: New Mexico and Phoenix/Tucson. I have another Phoenix group that we D2′d every week and more often, and now we’ll be doing it again!

    Looks like they brought a lot of elements of WoW over. Definitely looks like a lot of fun!
