And now from our “What in the holy fuck are they thinking” file comes the news that Darren Aronofsky is in talks with MGM to direct a Robocop remake.

Okay, Audrey and I are the two out of the two people who actually really liked The Fountain. But to follow that up with a remake? And Robocop? ROBO FUCK COP? Are you fucking mental? What?!

I… words… oh fuck all!

I wrote an article about this on my BlogSpot… I linked back to this article but it didn’t do a “ping back” so I dunno what’s up with that but it’s there.

My girlfriend and I both really liked the Fountain too though…

Huh. It’ll either rock, or it’ll suck. My money is on the latter, simply because Veerhoven did such an awesome job with the first.

Totally agree! The first one was brilliant. A remake is redundant and pointless.

…so far it seems the fountain is one to watch with one’s girlfriends. The HIGHLY UNLIKELY but technically plausible scenario is that none of the critics had girlfriends to watch it with and thus enjoy. SO they slated it.
    … *ahem*.

But srlsy. a remake of Robocop…
Im seeing a pattern of digging up 80’s pop culture from the derelict pile of has-beens, giving them a lick of cgi and attempting to re-market.

This crappy version of the “re-imagining” phenomenon that has struck hollywood like a blight is killing any originality, and reducing producers to spineless sponges. Why try? Why not plunder other people’s original ideas.

How about creating an original IP that ..i dunno…works well with the mood of today?Ah my rants always end in a pointless and nowhere reaching endgame. But you gotta admit, originality is being slowly chipped away.

[…] Aronofsky confirmed as the director of the Roboflop remake makes me cringe. I am truly disappointed. The Fountain showed that Aronofsky had something unique and challenging to say with film. I was so looking forward to more movies that challenged the bounds of every day perception. Now it could be that he intends to take the concept of Roboflop and completely turn it on its ear. If that is the case, I might begrudgingly check it out. But if this turns out to be a straight updated sexified remake, my heart weeps. Going to have to wait for more information before I start panning it completely, but Roboflop 2010 doesn’t inspire much confidence. […]
