Looks like Sasha Baron Cohen isn’t the only Sherlock Holmes on the block. AZM regular Devin Wolfe sends news that Robert Downey, Jr. will also play Sherlock Holmes in an upcoming drama directed by Guy Ritchie. This version will be based off of the comic book version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s master detective and is set to go into production before the Cohen/Ferrell comedy version.

Casting Iron Man kind of knocks the wind out of the comedy duo. I’m sure Cohen and Ferrell’s performances will be absolutely hysterical. But with Tony Stark as Sherlock Holmes, the geeky crowd that indulges in Cohen and Ferrell’s brand of humor may instead be pulled to the more serious version. It’ll be interesting to see how both movies do and if they’ll be opening opposite each other. I’ll probably end up seeing both as I’m a huge Sherlock Holmes fan and can’t wait to see Downey, Jr. and Cohen in the role.
