Watchment Trailer

Dr. Manhattan

Empire has posted an exclusive trailer for Watchmen. I can’t embed so head on over and take a gander.

UPDATE: Found a YouTube version.
UPDATE 2: You can grab the trailer from the site.

I like the Nite Owl’s ship, Doctor Manhattan, Comedian, and of course Rorschach. I’m still not feeling Ozymandias and I think Nite Owl is way too fit. Seriously, Nite Owl should be paying royalties to Batman.

I’m kind of on the fence at this point which is weird. When the first trailer for 300 hit, I almost fell out of my chair. I really liked that movie quite a bit. But I’m a little meh on Watchmen. I certainly appreciate the fact that they seem to be using the comic as story boards for scenes and that we can see Doctor Manhattan’s smurfy wang.

Of course, I’m not looking at this with fresh eyes. I’m one of them old stodgy comic book nerds and probably can’t get past a few nit picks. Who knows. This might be perfect for people not familiar with the source material. They’re the ones that count.

So is does this leave you with a feeling of underwhelming “meh” or will Watchmen give Dark Knight a run for its money for the title of “Greatest comic book film EVAR?”

So far I’m still betting on Ironman as best comic book movie EVAR!

WB ninjas attack - no YouTube for you.
    And Empire has crashed.
This will be the best movie of 2009. I’m excited for it.

I actually like it a lot. I agree that Nite Owl is too fit, but it is what it is. Best comic movie ever? Not sure. I still haven’t seen DK, and Iron Man was pretty fantastic, so it will be a close call. Either way, I’ll probably be seeing this one opening night.

you can also watch it on gizmodo, at least until it crashes there too.

I have yet to read the comic (soon to be remedied), so all the visuals I see are all shiny and pretty. Right now it is a lot of “oooooooh that looks very interesting and exciting!” to me, and I’m really looking forward to the movie.

But I see what you mean about being nit picky for people familiar with the source material. I was like that with the X-Men movie when the first pics hit the internet.

That song used in the trailer is from the soundtrack to another comic-book inspired movie.
    Name it.

It finally dawned upon me, Ledgers Joker is in truth the Comedian.

@Jack T Robyn: Batman and Robin, I believe.

As for the trailer, I don’t know how it’s just “meh” to anyone who read the graphic novel. All the shots in the trailer were almost exactly shot for shot from the source. And if the source is widely considered to be the greatest graphic novel of all time, the movie can’t be all THAT bad, can it? They updated the costumes a bit to appeal to the general audience, and maybe some actors that didn’t want camel knuckles showing through the spandex, but other than that, I see this as being another 300: a great graphic novel faithfully translated onto the silver screen.

And the Mars shot was awesome!! :D

the song was a remix of the smashing pumpkins song from Batman & Robin, ouch.

other than that, I think I may have wet myself watching this one.

Very similar feel to this trailer as to the spirit one due to the music.

The only thing that didn’t gel with me was Veidt as well, but we already knew that from the press-pics.

Nite-Owl too fit? Maybe, adrenalin can go a long way, he did make his way through the prison riot in the book as well and he obviously doesn’t look as thin/fit as Manhattan and Veidt. Maybe we should’ve seen him sitting in his ship exhausted? I wonder if they’ll play up the costume fetish angle or hammer that down to keep from weirding out people too much.

If only Rorschach’s rorschach test ends up looking good I’ll be fine with this movie.
    ‘A pretty butterfly…’ ^_^

This definately took my worries about Manhattan, Rorschach and Mars away.

    Extra:
“Seriously, Nite Owl should be paying royalties to Batman.”

It was originally planned to use existing heroes for Watchmen but DC wouldn’t have it and had Moore and Gibbons invent new ones for the book. Even then, the mirrors with Superman (Manhattan), Batman (Nite-Owl), Wonder Woman (Silk Spectre) and Green Arrow (Comedian) are obvious, aren’t they?

    Argh!

The original inspirations differ… They’re based on other heroes originally (Atom, Blue Beetle, Black Canary, the Question, etc.). But even then, the first time I read Watchmen I saw the paralels between the matchups above.

    @Chopa/Vortigar:

Pick up the Wanted graphic novel if you want to see some cool character adaptations, but not of the heroes….

I saw this trailer last night before DK, and it was pretty amazing. The theatre actually applauded when it was over.

Not exactly a remix, kinda the flipside to the front single (this one is The Beginning is the End is the Beginning, the other being the End is the Beginning is the End). In the actual film, Batman and Robin, it was only used breifly during Pam Isley describing her transformation into Poison Ivy, and her first lethal kiss.

    Grats to Devin though

Well after just seeing Dark Knight I might be a little biasd, I’m not sure how you can top that as a super hero movie. I dont think Watchmen will be the best superhero movie ever but it might pull off best comic movie. I mean Watchmen isnt really about super heroes anyway thats why it was so good.

Hurm. I just know that this will never live up to the book. Even if it was a series of films or mini-series, it just can never live up. Watchmen uses the abilities of the comic book / graphic novel to their full extent. You can’t do it in other medium.

Meanwhile, that trailer looked fantastic. It looks to be about as good as we can get.

Yeah, about the only Nitpick is Nightowl looking too good. Unless the suit hides a gut. He can still not have the gut and still be old and warn out. Maybe Ozy looking a bit skinny, but if the actor can still have the presence and is the right actor for the role, that’s easily tossed aside.

The song is an odd choice, but I think it works. It’s taking a song created for one of the worst comic book superhero films ever. I think that was on purpose. Plus listen to the lyrics. If I didn’t know better, it sounds like it was made for Watchmen. Neat.

Meanwhile, on my wall, I got a plastic cutout version of Rorschach’s face above some Question comics on a wall painted the blue color of his coat. So, seeing the guy in action was pretty awesome. The voice was chilling.

Dude, don’t nitpick over minor aspects. I think the look was kept similar but distinct, too make it work better as a movie. Watchmen the comic will always stay the comic, but zak penn wanted people to remember the movie as well. Its a super cerebral comic, so don’t expect “This. Is. Sparta!!!!’ moments, “(for shame, if they do).

I actually found the trailer interesting. I don’t know if it will be the best comic book movie evarr, though, Nolan did a sweet ass job with Dark Knight.

Is it bad i recognise every scene from the trailer? lol. What was the song in the trailer?
