Star Trek 2009

We’ve got Eric Banna as the tattooed Nero, Zoe Saldana as the alluring Uhura, Zachary Quinto as the emotionless Spock, and Chris Pine as the smarmy Kirk. I think Nero is a Romulan. No bumpy Next Gen ridges for them, but they have sweet face tattoos. The poster colors match the uniform colors. And they have this real retro feel which is quite striking. Still, I’m not a fan of covering old ground. Star Trek is about the promise of tomorrow and exploring the limits of our perceptions. Now it’s more than possible that JJ Abram’s interpretation will reflect that spirit. Hard to tell from just a few poster images.

What do you think?

I’m expecting an interesting look at the back story with not-so-good acting.

. . .I am so satisfied right now with this. . .I wanna see Sulu, Chekov and Scotty before I say anything else though.

There was a PDF file floating around the net a few years ago that was supposedly a collaboration between JMS and Bryce Zabel, about a total reboot of the star trek franchise - complete wiping clean of the slate. It looked pretty good to me, here’s hoping that JJ had time to read it before starting on his script :)

To be frank, judging the movie before it actually comes out would be premature.

[…] The latest round of Star Trek 2009 posters are less recognizable than the first. I had no problem recognizing Spock, Kirk, Ohura, and random evil Romulan guy. Thankfully, the interwebs tell all. That’s John Cho as Sulu, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as McCoy, and Anton Yelchin as Chekov. Urban’s expression reads “Get that fucking camera out of my face” which is actually spot on for McCoy. Simon Pegg as Scotty just makes me laugh. I would love to see how he plays it. I won’t complain about a Korean cast as a Japanese because I’m happy to see John Cho get more work. And I have no idea who Anton Yelchin is. […]
