So Where’s the Dark Knight Video Game?

Batman Gameboy

These days, you can’t have a blockbuster movie without fucking it up with a shitty video game adaptation. So where’s the shitty Dark Knight video game? AZM ally Greg sends word that according to Gary Oldman, the game is in on its way. In an interview with G4, Oldman said that Lieutenant Gordon makes a cameo atop of Gotham PD’s Major Crimes Unit before Bats jumps off the roof and flies around. No word on the developer or street date.

I’m trying to think of a movie based game that I actually enjoyed. The Lego Star Wars series is good fun, but those don’t really count. I did pick up the Spider-Man game after the first movie came out. It was fun to a point and then I just got totally bored with it. Well, that and I got stuck on the Vulture’s stage. Stupid Vulture. I think they should just re-release the Gameboy Batman game. That kicked ass! It was fun, it was challenging, and I played it over and over (mostly because I could never beat it). Who needs fancy graphics when you have Baterang shield!

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Robocop games that I had on my old 486 PC were quite enjoyable.

games based on movies almost always suck in my opinion. Its like the game studio thought ok we got the license, now people will buy it just because they liked the movie, don’t have to worry about actually making a good game. A new batman game would be great, but I hope they would take their time and make a game that is fun to play.

Do the Tron games count? And remember, the TMNT game was more on the cartoon, not the movies.
The key problem here is that it takes longer to make a video game than it does to make a movie. But marketing isn’t really hip to that, and they want to release the game and movie at the same time. You’d think they learned their lesson with ET.
But instead, almost all good movie-to-videogame titles are the result of releases coming out much, much later (lego star wars, along with a lot of the other star wars titles, Indiana Jones had a good game in there, and there’s the new Ghostbusters game in the pipeline).
But what about the Podracing game that came out with Episode I?

Oh yeah! Tron freaking rocked! But ET should have totally ended the genre.
