Cowboy Beebop Starring Keanu Spiegel?

Cowboy Bebop

Live action Cowboy Bebop movie? Okay, could be fun.

Live action Cowboy Bebop movie produced in America for Fox? Uh… well… almost kind of makes sense.

Live action Cowboy Bebop movie produced in America for Fox starring Keanu Reeves? NO!

I sincerely hope that this rumor that Angry Zen Minion Kevin Bahrt sent over is just that. There is indeed a live-action Bebop flick in the works at Fox but rumor has it that Keanu Reeves is up for the part of Spike Spiegel. No, no, no, a thousand times NO!

Keanu’s usual trick of starring blankly and delivering monotone dialog just doesn’t fit a hard boiled, Lupin inspired, noir ass kicker. I’m not entirely certain who I would pick, but Keanu isn’t on my list. Maybe someone like Josh Hartnett or James McAvoy (okay, that’s probably a stretch), but not Keanu and certainly not Shia!

Might as well go ahead and play the casting game. So who would you cast as Spike? Better yet, who would you cast as Jet, Faye, Edward, and Vicious?

    Spike: James Marsden

    Jet: Christopher Meloni

Faye: Jordana Brewster or Sophia Bush

Ed: Not sure, maybe a new face.

Vicious: Maybe someone like Mark Musashi, just because of the martial arts and the fact
that Vicious fights with a Katana not a gun. Or James Franco.

    Julia: Charlize Theron

Ein: Dookie (The Queens Welsh Corgi) lol

I gotta agree with Jamie on NO Keanu or Shia as Spike. Keanu is too old (Spike was 27 in the show) and a bad actor and Shia doesn’t fit the part at all. I always pictured Spike as a cross between Bruce Lee and a young Humphrey Bogart. The most important thing about casting Jet is his voice. If he weren’t too old, I’d say go with Beau Billingslea. His voice in the dubbed version was perfect. Faye could be a good role for someone like Scarlett Johansson (partially because I’d love to see her in Faye’s outfit). Edward will probably need to be a relative no name actress. Not a clue on who should play Vicious. My biggest requirement for the movie (aside from NO Keanu) is that they better keep the cigarettes in the film. If there isn’t a single shot of Spike with a broken Marlboro hanging out of his mouth at some point in the movie or Faye lounging with a cigarette in her mouth, I’m taking a trip to Hollywood to break the director’s kneecaps.

You know, I hate cigarettes more than I probably should, but I think you’re right. Spike’s gotta have his cigs. It just wouldn’t be right without them!

I knew there was a possibility of Keanu Reeves as Spike when I heard Erwin Stoff was producing this; Erwin Stoff and Keanu Reeves ALWAYS do movies together. I just hope Keanu plays Vicious instead of Spike - just cause I’d find great pleasure in Keanu’s death >:[

The idea of a live action Bebop excites me, out of all the anime I’ve watched it’s always held a special place in my heart as being the first “serious” one I watched. So I can’t really see ANY well known American actors taking on any of the roles. Though like DaVincisGhost up there, I wouldn’t mind seeing Ms. Johansson take on the role, her in that outfit would bring me many, many happy memories.

I suppose if I were forced to choose actors for Spike and Jet, I’d have to go with Ben Browder for Spike and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Jet, simply because he makes everything awesome. Ed and Vicious would have to be REALLY fucking good at their roles. Ed has a hyper-active personality that might be a little hard to portray on the big screen. And Vicious… eh. He dies in the end, so make it some big Hollywood asshole.

aside from Keanu this sounds really cool!

I’d with steampunk esthetics coming back into style I think it would make sense (if Bebop does well) to do a Trigun movie.

I’ll be keeping an eye out for this one.

    My personal picks…

Spike: Ben Foster -maybe a little young but I think he could pull it off.

    Jet: Ron Perlman

    Faye: Jessica Biel, Kelly Hu

Ed: probably an unknown, maybe Dakota Fanning.

Vicious: James Marsden -another risky one, but I’d like to see him as a villain.

    Julia: Famke Janssen

God NO! No live action Bebop! No good can come of this, much less in America, and in the hands of FOX on top of that!

And since everyone here knows the end of Bebop, let me point out to all the people picking actors for Vicious because they want that actor die, that Spike also dies, shortly thereafter.

When this comes out, my misguided in-laws who know I like anime are going to end up getting such a lecture when they suggest I might go see it, because I am not touching this monstrosity with a 30 foot-pole.

Eh if they make a live action movie it should be in the style of the bebop movie, some random job somewhere unrelated to the plot of the series. So no Vicious and no Julia.

I agree with epoch9 Ron Perlman for Jet, he would be perfect.
I can’t really think of any good actors for the other parts, but I would like to see someone who has a good martial arts background for Spike.

Blech. First John Constantine. Then almost Doctor Manhattan. And then Klaatu. I certainly don’t think I could stomach him as Spike. Then again, I can’t think of any big name actors off the top of my head. Then again, look at Watchmen or 300. Mostly lesser known actors in movies that hit big. Bebop’s got enough style and concept to ride on that. It shouldn’t be a star vehicle. If only stuff like Constantine or I am Legend got that treatment.
