There is no denying that Jake Gyllenhaal is a dishy piece of man meat in his Prince of Persia costume. Clearly he’s been bulking up to play Dastan. While we certainly appreciate his dedication to the physicality of the role, he just doesn’t fit. Prince Valiant hair and manly stubble do not a Persian make. I guess it’s slightly racist of me to decry Gyllenhaal’s casting simply because he’s not Persian, but dammit, this just doesn’t fit. I’m sure there will be lots of Persians as extras or support characters. Why not just grab an unknown? Ah well.

So is it just me or do you think he’ll be perfectly good as Dastan?

He looks like a younger Hugh Jackman trying to do a Young Wolvering movie.

The problem is that big/recognizable names enable studio heads to loosen their sphincters and give money to movie projects, which require HUGE amounts of money. Casting an unknown Persian in a risky movie project is going to cause them to clench that sphincter tighter than ever. Ain’t gonna happen in Hollyweird.

They should’ve gotten the guy who plays Sayid on Lost, Naveen Andrews.

I don’t know. the prince never did look Persian to me to begin with so i think they could cast any one who would look the part but i have to agree he don’t look the part ether. He went the wrong way with his work out to.Should have toned down rather bulk up he just don’t look acrobatic.

He’ll probably do fine, I mean we know he’s a quality actor and I imagine he’ll pull it off. That doesn’t mean there wasn’t some one out there better for the part. I think Naveen Andrews is just slightly too old to be the prince.
