The Image Mill

Angry Zen Minion Olivier Lunardi writes in with an event that is just for all you Angry Québec Art lovers. From June 20 to September 5, theater performance group Ex Machina projects a forty minute video and audio production against the grain silos in the Port of Québec. Entitled The Image Mill, the production will recount Québec’s 400 year history. There is a video slide show and a nice documentary at The Image Mill webpage.

The maintenance would be very costly, but I think it’d be awesome to see a project like this become a permanent installation. There are so many drab looking buildings that could certainly use some video graffiti to sex them up. Every month or every few months you could invite new artists to contribute a piece, project it against a building, and have sexy video art year round. You could even have seasonal themes. Man, I totally would love to have something like this in D.C. Someone give me a large sack of money so I can make this happen!

This reminds me of a class and exhibition that they have up in Philadelphia at UArts. It’s called Illuminations and it’s a workshop that they offered both semesters this past year. Students design things that they eventually project on the campus buildings as well as some of the other large buildings on Broad St., which is right in the heart of Philly. It’s pretty cool to see and they keep it up all weekend long. None of the stuff was full animation but there were some simple moving aspects to their designs.

I’ve seen it and it was AMAZING!! Seriously you should consider taking a quick trip up here and visit a bit while you’re there ;)

I personnally think it should not be repeated too often. The whole thing would lose its magic if it was everywhere, pretty much how foie gras is so good, but if you have it on toast every morning, you end up not liking it anymore.

It is an event to see, remember, and dream of until it comes to earth again :)
