Damnit. I used the wrong word, it should be "fair game" not "fare game". This bloody thing needs and edit function.

Honestly I don't mind some free artwork on the side of buildings and what not but almost all of my experience with graffiti looks like this.

It would probably be best if, instead of paying one artist money, just make bridges and other boring public property fare game, provided it isn't inappropriate (ie wangs and the like all over the place, we get enough sexual exposure from commercials). Save a little money for the cities and the like. Ads are okay if they're funny. I have trained myself so that I actually can't remember anything advertised to me, which gets annoying if I see something I want to remember. Plus they pay for things. All those free tv shows on HULU and the like are paid for by ads. I think the billboards pay for road repairs or something, maybe, I don't know. In all honesty if some company wants to pay for road repairs in the vain hope that I will pay their ads the slightest bit of attention, ah hahahahahaha. Seriously? A sign by the road? 'Less I'm lookin' for food or gas I couldn't care less.
My only real problem with graffiti is that it sometimes pops up on private property. I might want a dragon painted on my roof and I might not but that's my decision not some artists.
You want to paint some pretty pictures on some bridges and tunnel walls with your own paint? Fine, I don't mind as long as it's not wangs or something equally inappropriate. But make sure it's art not just your opinion spray painted on the wall. If you want to express yourself buy a soap box or get a blog. You have a right to speak your mind, others have a right to ignore you, the government has to listen to your shit, but you have to bring your own soap box, not commandeer public property for your own reasons.
