UDON's Street Fighter DVD Cover

In collaboration with Eagle One Media, UDON Entertainment is releasing the first six issues of their Street Fighter comic as an animated DVD on February 3, 2009. They did a trailer for the first volume a while back and I imagine the DVD will look something like this.

I really think this is a great way to present comics. The voice acting is always key, but I think it’s a step in the right direction. I love what Marvel did with their animated Astonishing X-Men and I’m hoping the Street Fighter DVD will have similar production values.

There will be two versions on the DVD, one with and one without word balloons. The program will run 80 minutes.

Something similar was done with Metal Gear Solid’s comic before this and, although I haven’t seen the whole thing, the result seems at least OK. Here’s the TGS trailer in case you haven’t seem it already:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1W9JPY5EZ8. However, much before that Sanpei Shirato’s Ninja Bugei-cho (Band of Ninja) got a movie made pretty much the same way, using the stills from the original manga. I could only find the IMDB link (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062044/), but I know you can get it on avi on boxtorrents and DVD on asiandvdclub if you’re interested.
