The man-machine interface is now. First Honda developed their Walking Assist Device. Then ReWalk developed its mobility assistance device. Now, Angry Zen Minion Devin Wolfe writes in with news that a Japanese technology company called Cyberdyne (geez, Skynet isn’t even trying to hide it anymore) has manufactured the Hybrid Assistive Limb or HAL.
HAL uses brain waves to calculate how much assistance to provide for a given movement. The leg unit weighs 22lbs which is supported by the exoskeleton itself. A single battery charge lasts five hours. You can rent HAL for two legs at $2,200 a month or for one leg at $1,500. HAL is only available in Japan for the moment.
This is certainly good news for the elderly who could use an extra boost to get around. And it’s also good news for the rest of us when it comes time to arm ourselves against the Skynet’s robot hoards of doom. How ironic that Skynet has developed the very system that will help defend humanity against its robot doom bringers! Cyberdyne’s HAL brings us one step closer to true Rider Systems! RIDER KICK!
