Canada Develops Micro Hunter Killer

Hunter Killer

Angry Zen Minion Thomas Coe writes in with news that researchers at the University of Waterloo have developed a microrobot that can fly thanks to a magnetic field. The microrobot can also precisely manipulate micro objects with magnets attached to microgrippers. And that should use up our annual quota of the use of the prefix “micro.”

The tiny robot can be used to assemble small mechanical devices or even perform microsurgeries (sorry, one more for the micro queue). It’s remote controlled with freaking lasers allowing operators can send the tiny robot virtually anywhere. Microespionage (sorry) seems like a very practical application for the little bots.

I thought the magnet field generated flight wasn’t possible with out 2 magnets with opposite polarity’s.There was a documentary on ufo’s about whether it could be military experiments.Seem a scientist 50 or so years ago made some thing that could use the earth magnet field to float but it was disputed as a fraud and not possible. The more powerful field’s on earth only generate 60 microteslas (sorry had to) per so many feet.So there not enough energy per inch to generate lift.So it probably sandwiched between 2 electromagnets some how.

Thats really freaky but totally cool.

As for the science behind it I wont pretend to understand it but they frequently discover old science was wrong or lacked pertinant information and was simply not seeing the whole picture.
