George Kirk is Thor

George Kirk as Thor

Chris Hemsworth, who we know as George Kirk in Star Trek, may play the God of Thunder in Kenneth Branagh’s adaptation of Marvel’s interpretation of Thor. That’s a mouthful.

I don’t know a whole lot about Hemsworth other than he was captain of a starship for twelve minutes and saved eight hundred lives. I guess that pretty much qualified him to do whatever he wants. I’m curious to see who they’ll cast as Donald Blake or even if Donald Blake will be in the movie at all. If they’re following a sort of Ultimates version of the Avengers, there’s no Blake.

Well, he certainly looks like a Thor. And Kenneth Branagh is directing. So this could be full of goodness. We’ll have to wait a while since Thor opens in May of 2011.

The current script features Dr. Donald Blake.

Hemsworth is 6′3′’ which means he will tower over Norton and Downey.

I could see him playing the good doctor as well. Maybe they’ll emphasize the limp to make him seem more human. I guess that means he’ll have to wear a wig or tie his hair back or something.

He’s a former soap star here in Australia. A 140 odd episode run as one Kim Hyde, brooding and adventurous son of a one-eyed grumpy Principal. It was hard to see him on the bridge of the Velvin and not try to solve his problems with surfing.

It was equally difficult to watch his wife without seeing Dr. House hovering over her.
