Basterds Make Killing Fun Again

I realize, of course, that I’m sick sick fuck for cheering on a group of men whose sole purpose in this film is to extinguish human life in the most gruesome and horrific ways possible, but dammit, sometimes you just want to see Nazis die.

However, I wonder if this second trailer for Inglorious Basterds shows us too much. The Coin Flip Cinema lads talked about how the trailers for The Hangover ruined the best jokes. I wonder if this second trailer does the same for Basterds. I mean, sure, it doesn’t show us all the bloody bits. But that bit where Brad Pitt says, “We gots a German here who wants to die for his country. Oblige him” is a funny fucking bit. I would have laughed my ass off in the theater. I’m pretty sure I’ll still laugh when I see it again, but it’s a moment I would have liked to have been surprised with.

Anyway, I’m always up for a good bit of righteous bludgeoning, bludgeoning for which there is divine cause. I have to say, it doesn’t get much more righteous than killing Nazis. Looks like sick sick fun.

Historical accuracy aside, this actually looks like it could be a lot of fun to see. We have to give Tarintino some credit in teasing people into his movie. I don’t particually agreet that the funniest parts of The Hangover were shown via the trailers, as there were some hidden hilarious parts to be found elsewhere in the movie.

I’m going give the benifit of the doubt to this movie in that there will be even better parts to be found.

You have to hope as much, but Tarentino might be a dying flame in my book. He’s done some awesome movies, and I really enjoyed his entry into the grind house series, but this one seems like… I dunno… Tarentino’s last hoorah?
Brad Pitt also has been losing me lately.

War is almost entirely fought in the mind. The killing is just to effect the mind. Once you convince someone they can’t win and it’s more desirable to give up, you win. So sending someone into enemy territory to seriously fuck shit up is a tried and true method of dissolving your enemies moral. Case in point, The White Death.

Knowing Tarentino, there’s no way he’d allow a trailer to ruin his film by putting the best bits in it.

And I’ve been counting for this movie since the first trailer was released. It will be lots of fun.
