Galcos Soda Pop Stop, Best Place to Get Your Diabetes

Like many eight-year-olds, I am a great lover of soda (or pop as you mid-westerners call it). So it surprises me greatly that until now, I had no idea that there was a store somewhere out there that sold nothing but soda. John Nese’s Galcos Soda Pop Stop in LA is a place I simply have to visit sometime before I die. Or I could just order stuff online. I’m most interested in sodas that use real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. I didn’t think I would be able to taste the difference, but my experience with Pepsi Throwback clearly indicates to me that there’s a tasteable difference.

Galcos Soda Pop Shop. Yes. Please.

I tried some so called “mexican coke” which is coke made with real sugar in a glass bottle. It tasted a bit sweeter and less syrupy in my opinion. Definitely and improvement. Let’s switch over to sugar again, that way the demand on corn will go back down, a little anyway.

Here in Iowa you can get soda by a company called….Jones Soda. It’s actually a Seattle company but….anyway, all their beverages are made from cane sugar, and are very tasty. Only soda that isn’t root-beer that I’ll drink. They also make bizarre seasonal and special event sodas….It looks like this year’s Thanksgiving one is “Tofurkey”. They taste pretty much like the food item….carbonated. Which means they’re terrible to most people, including me. I know a guy who buys a pack of the November seasonal every year though. One time they had Salmon Casserole…..

There’s also Millstream Brewery, which is a company based in the Amana Colonies. They make beer and….a couple of sodas. Those sodas are great and again with the no refined corn syrup and such.

I’ve had proper corn syrup as well, not the stuff they put in Pepsi and Coke. The way it’s made in the Amanas, it actually tastes like light sugar-water with a hint of apricot.

I think Jones Soda is all over the place, we have it here in Austin and a friend of mine in Ohio mentioned it, neat stuff, but pricey.

Yeah we have Jones in Vancouver, and we call it pop here too. I gotta say I love old style bottle pop, every time I’ve had it it’s tasted better that the regular brands. Great video I wish that store was near here.

@Kevin: the only thing that will reduce the demand for corn is phasing out the massive corn subsidies. It should be done, but likely won’t. (it would drive up the cost of almost everything food related (including beef/poultry/etc) and, I believe, also make most bio-diesel more expensive).

You can absolutely tell the difference between syrup and sugar based drinks. Found Mountain Dew Throwback to be an even greater difference.

I’ve seen Jones too. I’m against subsidies as a matter of course.

Jones soda is pretty damn nice. There’s a good selection at the Harris Teeter down the street from me. The Whole Foods carries a variety of weird stuff that’s way too expensive, but a lot of it is “all natural.”

I always hesitate when something is all natural. Cat piss and bug poo is all natural too.
