See the First 8 Minutes of Emogelion 1.0: Shinji is Still Emo

In anticipation of the English language release of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone next Tuesday, Funamation has released the first eight minutes of the dubbed version. And yes, Shinji is still as emo as ever.

Okay, I admit it, the shit looks good. The animation is goddamn beautiful at this higher resolution. The character designs are the same as they were fourteen years ago when the series first debuted, but they somehow don’t feel dated. Shame we didn’t get to see any Eva action, but I’m sure it kicks quite a lot of ass. I also like the pacing of it. Seems like they’ll cover a lot of ground in this first movie.

So I don’t know. I’m kinda sick of Evangelion at this point. But this is all shiny and new and good looking. And it’s been so long since I’ve seen the series that it has that new anime smell to it. I think I’ll wait until the later films before I jump in. I don’t mind waiting until they’re all out so I can see the madness in one sitting. Is it too much to hope for for the movies to make more sense this time around?

More sense maybe… probably not though.
However the first movie is rather boring unless you ADORED the first ~5 eps or so, as it deviates little from them. 2nd movies a whole load of new however.

Uh, it hasn’t been released yet? I bought a copy yesterday from my normal anime store. Yeah, Shinji is still emo this time but he actually starts growing a pair as the series goes on. It makes a lot more sense and the Eva scenes are fucking awesome. I think the voice acting is actually better this time around too. I seriously can’t express how much more awesome and horrifying the angels are this time. Not running out of money or anti depressants have improved the series considerably and they’ve cut some of the fluff.

From what I’ve read that’s basically why they’re doing these films, because they realized the series was hastily done and confusing. I think these are based more on the manga (which still isn’t fully translated in our dear US), which is how I know the series best - and 10x better than the series. But I agree that it might be better to wait until all the movies are released … and watching the Japanese dubs.
