Spreading the Yellow Plauge

Is it premature to create a production blog for a comic and plug it on a site before the launch of the actual comic? Yes. Will that stop me? NEVAH!
Monday night, I completed the last official piece of Erfworld art I will ever create. Official art is now in the hands of the much more capable Xin whose first few pages already kick the shit out of my last few. I’m happy to see such a talented artist taking over the reigns and I wish her and Rob all the best. Erfworld is in better hands now.
So what’s next?
I’ve been asking myself that question for a few months now. I thought about finishing the Angry Zen Master comic that started all this insanity. I even outlined the final arc and started scripting dialog. But it kind of felt a little forced. I came up with an idea for a short horror anthology but never got much beyond the first short chapter. I have an idea for a crazy, shonen-style, batshit insane update of Cupid which I will probably get to at some point, but that feels like a long term project that I can let simmer for a while.
Lots of ideas but none of them really felt ready.
And then I remembered Yellow Peril.
YP was something I came up with waaaaaay waaaaaaaaaay waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day when I first started messing around with webcomics. Oh god, it hurts to look back at that shit now. I liked the idea at the time, but it quickly became apparent that I wasn’t ready for it just yet. I stopped before I completely ruined it and kept it on the back burner for quite some time.
I think I’m finally at a place where I am ready to take it off the stove and serve up great big helpings of comics. I’m taking my time. The comic proper probably won’t launch until early next year. It’s going to be strip format, update three times a week, and probably be black and white with grey scale shading. I might do color. Haven’t quite decided just yet. In the mean time, you can check out The Making of Yellow Peril production blog. I’ll be documenting the development of the strip in podcast format so you can subscribe via iTunes or in a reader. I’ll also post some test strips that I’ll be crapping out to get things just right. When I’m ready, I’ll make an official announcement and start the whore train. Oh yes, there will be whoring.
I’ll be going on Turkey Day vacation tomorrow through the weekend so I’ll be back on Monday. In the meantime, if you want your fix, check out the podcast and listen to me ramble like a fucking idiot.
