Titans… Will… Snore

This is what we call a demo reel. The meat puppets in this trailer are secondary to the effects which made sense in the original because that was some crazy awesome effects work at the time. This time around, we’ve seen amazing CG. So to grab my interest, it falls on the characters. Who are these fuckers? Why do we care? Why is that one guy jumping through the air with a metal skirt thingy when he knows people can see his sacky? We get none of these from this trailer.

Oh yeah, it’s damn pretty. That’s some fine CG work. And those Titans certainly look like they’re clashing the shit out of each other. But it left me cold. And the music didn’t really help.

I have no idea if I’ll like Clash of the Titans, but I certainly didn’t think this trailer worked.

somewhere in there it looked like there was some whoopee being made, I dont remember whoopee in my clash; this should be at least interesting.

Well, the thing you have to remember is that you’re not watching these kinds of movies because of the awesomesupergoodbadass story. You’re watching them to see some crazy CG work and some mortal combat finishing kills.

It’s like watching a horror movie. They aren’t scary, you’re just taking bets or playing drinking games based on who dies first. It’s no different with an action movie.

Now I’ll admit that 300 was the exception, since despite being horribly inaccurate in terms of history, the story was actually fairly decent. But really, a movie like that only comes along every so often. The rest is just filler.

Speaking of the music, when I first saw the trailer I immediately recognized the song but couldn’t remember the name of it nor who did it and it was driving me batty. What I did remember was the album artwork for it, so I flipped into iTunes and Cover Flowed my way through nearly 1,400 album covers until I found it :)

It’s “The Bird and the Worm” by The Used from the album Lies for the Liar. http://itunes.apple.com/ca/album/the-bird-and-worm/id254115609?i=254115685

Keep in mind these are greek/roman heroes. Their primary motivation for fighting monsters seemed to boil down “that thing looks hard to kill, I shall prove my manliness by killing it.” Plotting never seemed very strong to me. Jumping in combat is generally considered a rule of cool thing, try it in real combat and you’ll get killed.

The music was bleh honestly and the catch phrase….Titans will clash….bleh. Still i’m willing to give it a chance because i loved the original and i’m a fan of Liam Neeson. I’m hoping we get a date of when it’s due soon.

Yeah Liam Neeson looked all Zeusy in this, so that’s cool. And the greek heroes didn’t care if you could see their sack, they were too busy trying to stab things in the face to be modest.

Admittedly though that trailer told me nothing about the story, I always get Clash mixed up with Jason and the Argonauts and so I was kinda confused. But it looks like fun and who knows maybe they’ll make something with a good telling of Perseus’s story. Or it’ll just be a sword and sandles kill fest either way we win.

So, correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure a Stargate: Atlantis Wraith was featured in one of the shots.

I really, REALLY hope the soundtrack for the trailer isn’t demonstrative of the soundtrack for the film!

Overall, I give it a *MEH* minus for being all flash and no substance.
