Live Action Yamato Unleashes its Wave Motion Gun–er Trailer

AZM Ally Kensei Dave sent along the trailer for the new live-action Yamato coming out later this year in Japan. Some of you may know Yamato as Star Blazers. I’ve never seen either version of the show, but its legendary status in the history of anime is well known to me. It looks like a pretty decent interpretation as far as I can tell. Love that jacket with the red emblem. And it doesn’t hurt that the main character was the voice of Howl from Howl’s Moving Castle. Do want.

Wow, never thought i’d see a live-action Yamato since it’s such a classic. I recall seeing the whole series in english as Star Blazers a long time ago. I’m very curious to see how this turns out. I have high hopes!

If you want to know they chooses the call it in the english translation, so they could gain international fame with it. It seems maybe there will be screenings internationaly.

That looks pretty darn good! Hopefully there’ll be a subtitled version when it becomes available.

OMFG, I am soooooooooooo excited(I cried a little); I have seen tons of old school anime and Yamato was one of my long time faves along with mazinger and Gatchman, hopefully the success of this film will make them produce a live action Gatchman film and I will flip and go crazy over its shiny Gatchman goodness.

    TL;DR: DOOOOOOOOO WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111111ONEONEONE

Holy FRAK!!! I WANTZ ME SOM3!!!!!

    ’nuff, said… oh, ‘cept ‘dis.

It would be really cool if English versions kept closer to the original “Space Battleship Yamato” and knocked off the Americanized “Star Blazers” concept… the Japaneseness of refitting the Yamato and hurling it out into the void in a desperate last chance is part of what makes the story classic and dramatic.
